got the Yokohama ADVAN A052 setup 265/35R18 up front and 315/30R18 in back... they're BEASTS! a few more weeks till the wheels come to get mounted, then a wait till the suspension is built

We generally wait until we send a car for paint and body before we order tires. Understand the excitement though.

Hopefully you built at a quicker pace than I did. Life and my over thinking turned my build into a nearly 6 year build. That would have put my tires at end of life.

Maybe this will be the motivator to keep you on track during your build.

We've found that a roller doesn't need $3K worth of wheels and tires. These donor wheels and tires keep the nice wheels from getting damaged during the build.

The pretty ones go on to do final alignment right before adding the finished body.

Totally agree - the 25th Anniv car comes with wheels already so I figured I should get the shoes to match

I have 2 cars in my shop. one has brand new tires from 2004 and one has brand new tires from 2001. Don't buy tires and batteries out of excitement or convenience.

As others have said and as I commented on the other forum I hope you build fast because those soft compounds will be aged out and hard in 2 years.

Boy don't I know that. I ended up throwing out a set that only had 2000 miles on them, 1000 sliding sideways in every corner.

Totally agree with what others have said here. If you go on the Mustang forums, you can often find take offs with only a few hundred miles on them that bolt right up to our cars for the build process. I got a full set of 4 rims with tires with most of the treat still on them for $600. Will turn and sell the rims after the build to recoup the money. Saves ruining perfectly good new tires (that I haven't bought yet).

totally understand the comments here... thinking of storage items as well, 4 wheels sitting idle while the car is being worked will take up a LOT of space... space that isn't readily available without me renting a storage space... so yes, it will force the build speed...

the tires/wheels will be inside the garage, semi-heated, so it should help keep the tires pliable...

The biggest killer is UV. You can bag them up with black garbage bags when storing. That will help keep them fresh.

Are you sure it wasn't the sliding around corners part that wore them out in 2000 miles???? LOL

I wish that was true, but the sliding was because they were as hard as a rock. They were so hard, they wouldn't even leave black marks. Truthfully, it was longer than a three year build.

For a roller you can buy space saver donuts for about $25. each. I have a set that I bought years ago.

Our 25th is here and in the garage. Body off today, but with an additional 9 family members visiting in here in sunny Florida, I have been very lucky to get the 8 bolts off to get this far!! Headed to build school early tomorrow am and REALLY looking forward to it. Hope your car shows up soon, Toadster! Love the tires! Started mild shopping for them (because I can't get into the garage!!)
    Cheers!

Working nights and weekends (all of them), I know for a fact you can build it yourself in under four months. Even with working overtime at work. However, it’s required that you have no life and your wife treat you as if you are dead.

I bought the tires a little earlier then i should of too. Bought them shortly after I took delivery in October, I get the excitement of it. I just keep them in the spare bedroom.
I'm hoping to burn them in soon though...
