Truck progress
Made some progress last weekend on my truck. Installed the bed and fitted the front cowl and dash. Feels great to see it all together and take shape. Next im going to install the power windows and then disassemble everything and do more bodywork and prime it up. Rob E4567C32-E14D-4DA2-B29B-6075FE09632D.jpgE4567C32-E14D-4DA2-B29B-6075FE09632D.jpg

I’ve been busy at work the past couple months and slacking on my build a bit. I have everything painted other than the cab and the doors. Here’s a sneak peek at what I did to my air cleaner. My buddy is a true artist he did the airbrush work and I am pleased to get him involved with my build. Rob

Hi everyone, I have not posted anything on my build in quite a while. Long story short I didn’t work on my truck from June till late September due to a overloaded work schedule this part summer. However I was able to get the cab and doors painted last week which was the last parts to get painted the rest were painted early June and have been sitting in my basement since. I flocked my cab last nite and today mocked up the advantage aluminum bed from Smokey road rod shop. I’m getting pretty excited here in the home stretch. People are asking me what are you going to do when your done with it? I say drive it and go back to banjo lessons. Here’s a few pics. Rob. Made a little progress the past few days. All that’s left is glass, doors and dash. F29CDF33-4795-4739-A115-31A69A20B26D.jpeg37596FE6-C801-4B30-90E2-ED4770632861.jpeg

The bed floor is a aluminum advantage bed. From Smokey road rod shop. It’s aluminum with a 3D laminate to look like wood. No maintenance no fuss. I gave him my measurements and it fit perfectly. Big horn barn wood color pattern. Rob

1,000. A bit more than the ffr wood bed kit. All I had to do was install it no staining no cutting anything no fuss no maintenance.

Your builds are awesome! I was interested in this kit as well, and am curious how tall are you guys? I'm 6'3" and wondering if I would even fit in there? Could someone tell me a bit about the interior space? I'd hate to spend $30k on a kit car that I can't even sit in. I saw something at some point that said it was a few inches wider than the original but nothing specifically stating leg room and height of the occupant. Thanks! I live off I55 and 294 Robodent so maybe one day I will see yours on the road at a show.

Thanks guys for the kind words. I have my truck over at my buddy’s body shop getting the glass installed tomorrow morning and getting some buff work done to it. Should have it back in a few days. AED41111-CDBD-46EF-B735-5F9AE3E0ABE3.jpg0496B7F9-99FA-4FE0-A01F-0DCB918EBDAE.jpg

Thanks. I used spies heckler paint. Axaltra product It’s a Toyota color only one variance 2 stage. I love the pearls but I painted everything off the truck in a couple stages and wanted everything to match well.
I just got back working on it again and in the midst of installing the dash now. I hope to have it finished in a couple weeks or so. Then I can get the paperwork going with the state of Illinois and be ready this spring. Rob

Looks really great. Congrats.
Just got my kit to "go cart" stage (347 / TKO 600) having some clutch issues - what is your clutch set-up? I am switching to hydraulic.

Mike, I bought my kit second hand that was delivered and never was started to build. I’m running a cable clutch cause that what it was set up for. Early on in my build I wasn’t thinking modifications to much just kinda rolling with what I had. I purchased my engine and trans from forte. My engine and trans came on a skid all assembled and all I had to do was drop it in. I’m going to get another cable assembly just to have on hand for a spare. I guess if I did another build I would go hydraulic just cause it looks cleaner and smoother and that seems to be what more guys are running than not. Rob

Rob,
What door poppers did you use?

Zach, I used the spal 40 pound selenoid shaved door kit from speedway. I asked Wallace 18 what he used and on his and on his build thread there are some good pics on how he mounted them. Tom said he used them on a few builds and has had good luck with them. I reached out to Tom cause I was confused on which kit to go with being there are so many options out there. Hope this helps.
