Yep, I used Aeroloc 51-14 Fasteners from Pegasus for my trunk, plan on doing the same if I do a hood.

Wow. Screw Whitby. Been talking to jeff about painting the car for a year. He said repeatedly just bring it down any time to discuss. Drove the car an hour and a half to him and he couldn’t even be bothered to say hello. Not spending $10k with that attitude.

oh. And for anyone with a car there… at 11am on a Tuesday there’s not a soul in the shop actuslly
working.

Bummer, that sucks! I doubt 10K would cover it anyway, everyone up in this neck of the woods that has worked on the roadster vs the hot rod says the hot rod is easily 3 times the effort...

I don't agree with the amount of work to complete the body and paint. Having built 4 roadsters and most recently a 33, I can tell you that the 33 is a cake walk compared to the roadster. I did all the bodywork and paint on these (along with a daytona coupe and a GTM) and the 33 is the easies and quickest to finish the bodywork on. Probably has less than half the area of a roadster.

It depends a great deal on how much bodywork you are running. A few years ago I got a quote from Jeff Miller (da Bat) for my full fenders / running boards / hood / side-covers / roof '33 and the price was more than 2x what he was charging for roadsters. I have had similar responses from other skilled painters. It's my understanding that prices have gone up since then. If you have the pro do all the body work and painting, I would not be surprised to see a price tag in the $15K-$20K range. If your painter agrees and you do a good job of the body work yourself, you may be able to cut a chunk off the price. HTH Keith HR #894

2 doors. A trunk lid. And a body. No hardtop. No fenders, hood, nose cone, side panels.

I will happily pay a reasonable sum for reasonable work. Labor is expensive and time consuming. Same in my business. But so far I can’t find ANYONE that wants to work. The name brand painters have all been super flaky. I have begged them and they won’t take my money.

Seth, get you one of those Harbor Freight paint booths set in your shop and go at it yourself. Yes, it’s a mess, I know that the dust/mess in my garage stressed me out but now that it’s done and I’ve cleaned up it’s all good. If I had it to do over again I’d do far more wet sanding, it’s a slower process but less dust flying around. I did almost all of the wet sanding outside too. Even if you rattle can it the car will look cool, yours does and it has no paint.

One of the distinct advantages of owning a small business at one of the greatest race tracks in the country is that occasionally famous people come to visit. It’s a lot like sitting next to the bathrooms near a VIP suite. Through no fault of your own, people visit you.


Today was one of those days. In the automotive enthusiast world, he’s probably one of the best known race car drivers. Needless to say, he needed some help with his Camaro, and I needed somebody to take some tire off. So I present to you, donut by Randy Pobst.

Randy is one of the really good guys. Saw him at various TrackTime events at Sebring and I think some other tracks.

Randy is superbly nice and an excellent coach. We had a fun afternoon working on his car and abusing mine.
