From Ford's documentation: Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP, specification WSS-M2C945-A. Also Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil XO-5W20-QFS, specification WSS-M2C945-A. Translated as 5W-20 synthetic blend or full synthetic.

You'll get lots of debate about which brand is best, especially since most "synthetics" aren't really all synthetic but rather meet certain specifications. Something the industry allows. There are only a few brands that are truly synthetic, like Royal Purple. But the rest of the story, at least for me, is that the Ford recommended oil change is 10K miles or 1 year max. I average 2-3K miles per year with mine. So obviously meet the 1 year max with way fewer miles than allowable. So I've stayed with "synthetic" as recommended, but not the high priced variety. I get what's on sale at Walmart. Have used Penzoil's Ultra Platinum 5W-20 and last two changes have been Mobil 1 5W-20. For my street only driving and mileage, I'm confident the engine is being well taken care of.

Ok, that's probably way too much information. Hopefully answered your question.

Thanks for your help. My concern is using synthetic in an engine that hasn't been broken in. Maybe that's old school. Thanks again!

Comes from the factory with synthetic oil. Yes that's an old school thing. Newer technologies and tolerances run synthetics right from the start.

Ford recommends 5W-20 for the street cars. But for racing, they recommend a 5W-50.

Using a synthetic oil in a new engine is not a problem.

BUT... with a new engine I change the oil 3 times in the first week or so. The first two time I use the cheapest 0W SAE oil I can find, because it isn't going to be in there very long. But the third time I switch to a full synthetic.

Penzoil's Ultra Platinum 5W-20 is good for engine. In additional, Royal Purple 36520-6PK HPS 5W-20 is also another option for you.

It's OK to quote posts. We all do it. But don't add words not part of the original post, as highlighted above. Those are your words not mine. Additionally, that link may be OK information, but isn't one that I would necessarily recommend. It's basically an advertisement. Says so right on their site. "https://www.autoguysland.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com." There are much better sites for actual scientific and engineering data if you're so inclined.
