On my way to solving my problems

On the car that is anyway...
Love these forums for the comraderie they bring. After reading about my misfortune Scotr451 reached out to me.
He had some misfortune with registering his car in Maine and was forced to buy a new engine. This left a Forte build 347 in his garage.
Today he drove it down to me and it will be the base of my rebuild.
Now if only the weather would get warmer....

Well, I think you just recently moved so your choice is made. It will get warmer when it gets warmer. Funny that 35 yrs ago I got a job and the requirement was live on the east coast near a major airport. I was for Philadelphia since I grew up there but my wife said the weather will be a lot nicer in DC. OK. For the first 5 yrs she loved pointing out to me the temps in Philly when we watched the weather program on TV. Glad you got that engine. That will sure shorten the process.

Yeah the weather is the weather
Excited about the prospect here though with this engine
Now the dilemma is whether I should keep this at 340 HP or put my aluminum heads on it and make more....

More Is Always Better In My Book!

Many years ago we did a head swap on my brother's El-Chico (El-Camino) and it went from running mid to low 14's to high 12's to low 13's.
If you can pick up this kind of horsepower and your old heads are in great shape then why not swap them out?
Will changing the head get you closer to 400 HP or maybe more?
Minor HP increases will really be felt in these low weight cars.

Happy Wrenching & Watch Your Pinkies!

It probably will, but I will need to have my heads gone through by a machine shop, replace the valve springs with roller springs and retainers plus get different pushrods. Oh and then there's putting it all back together...

In That Case If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It!
Stuff that new mill in the car & rework the heads down the road.
