That's just across town from me! You should finish my car up quick, bring it out and take the Tiger home with you. I can even store it in my garage for you until you are ready to get it.

Seems to me that the value of Tigers has been rising fast and that they are getting very expensive. I don't know how much it will end up going for, but you could end up okay financiering I would guess. We all know you can make it beautiful. That nest of wiring under the dash would scare me though.

If you hurry up and get it done, you could bring it to LCS 2020.

    short story about a Tiger.

I worked in NC for awhile and one of the other engineers had a Tiger that he bought used. To learn more about it, he went to a Tiger/Sunbeam get together and car show. Picked up a newsletter that had an article about the low SN tigers. Turns out SN 2 and 3 where known about, but Number 1 was not, and assumed to be bogus or destroyed. He wondered what his was and looked. Guess what, he had the number 1 Tiger. So a full restoration was done. After that driving it around he crashed it. I left the area before he decided what to do about. SAD...

Have always liked the Tigers, even owned one from 67-68, but I could not keep tires on the rear. Then I bought a TVR Griffith 200. It was worse.

This will not stay at a bargain price for long, since it still has 6 days to go.

I have always liked the Tiger's, but that one has been through a lot. So many things have been tinkered with, added to, or taken away, it won't ever be worth much as a collectors vehicle. It still requires a lot of time and work to finish it...Then what after all that, it actually turns out to be a Sunbeam Alpine that someone cloned?

There, is that what you needed to bring you to your senses?

If your really into self-abuse, you could get this one for a tenth the price. It even has a fiberglass body as an added incentive for you!

    Jeff,

I'm certain you're just trying to get one of us to bid it up past your comfort zone...

Stop tempting me - like you, I need another project like I need another hole in my head.

But that one is very, very tempting.

Are you hesitant because you might not be able to finish it? Might be a thought but I'm not buying it.

Hmmmmmm . . . Thermal Ca. Gets its name from ??? Right outside of and close by to Furnace Ca. - home of the hottest temperature recorded in the USA at 134° F . . . ever! Homes there will need 20 tons of A/C just to maintain 85° indoor temps. Walking around requires some VERY sturdy shoes and don't touch anything that even looks like it might be a hand rail or support structure. You need to keep your hand tools in a fridge.

    Don't ask me how I know these things . . .

    Doc

Jeff, FWIW, I owned it's distant cousin, a "Roots Group" Hillman Husky that I dropped a Hi-Po 289 in - a Tiger disguised as an English panel truck.

Yea, I know, no pictures, didn't happen

I think a Tiger would be cool and nobody would ask if it was real (well, you'd still have "those guys" that would ask if it was an Alpine, but at least no one would be knocking on your fenders. And a lot more people would ask "what is it? Is it still sacralige to drop an LS in there?)

C'mon Jeff. You need something to do in your spare time! And I like Rich's JAT!

I looked up the value at Hagerty. Prices have actually been going down. I know form my magazines that a lot of collector cars are slipping right now.

    Current Values
    #1 Concours $130,000 (Down from $150,000 in sept 2016)
    #2 Excellent $87,300 (Down from $112,500)
    #3 Good $66,400 (Down from ~$88,000)
    #4 Fair $44,100 (Down from ~$55,000)

Most freshly restored "shows cars" are #2. #1 cars are the few best in the world examples, which that one could probably never be.

I wonder how fast the $60k margin would get eaten up restoring that one? I'll bet Jeff could have brought it in with some margin if anyone could.

Yes. But if you compare it to $25K for a basket case........some of those prices don't look too bad.
