Gen 2 Floor Marine sealant FYI!

Gen 2 guys. FYI, 3M makes the 5200 marine sealant in colors. You’re not stuck with white. Learn from my mistake.

I see that it’s offered in 4 colors, what would you change and why? Seepage on the bottom?
Thanks for tips like this, I’m just getting started!

    My floors are
powder Coates gloss black. I’ll be picking the white sealant over run for a while once it sets.

GE makes black silicone sealant. Lowes sells it.

The gen 2 floor uses a sandwich core and they specifically
call out using the marine sealant and not using silicone.

Once you open a tube of 5200 use as much as you can as chances are the next time you go to use it it will have already setup....

Good Lord, isn’t that the truth?

5-7 day setup? And the stuff gets everywhere. I’m super anal and it still took an hour of cleanup.

Totally agree, I hate the stuff but it's much better than RTV and the best thing to use in marine applications...

Did you ever happen to watch the TV show Dexter? That’s what I feel like I needed to do with my shop prior to using that goop. Just ball up the plastic and throw it all away....

Its not that it’s messy, but it gets messy quick if you screw up. I needed 5 tubes.

Yes, fast cure is 48 hours (not fast by my definition) as compared to the standard which is 5-7 days (glacial)

For the love of god, wear gloves with 5200! The stuff is gold though. Pro tip- if you have a pair of winter gloves take some left over 5200 and rub it between the palms of your gloves. Hang to dry and you have the worlds most waterproof, durable (and ugly) gloves.

I looked too... I think the fast cure is only available in white. I could be wrong though.

So kill two birds with one stone - wear your winter gloves while bonding the floor panels? (the "ugly" comment made me laugh out loud)
