    Gas-N Header Question

Based on the very positive feedback given on this forum for the Gas-N sidepipes, that is what I am going with. I was planning on also ordering the headers from Gas-N as well, but wanted to check with the forum if they are the best choice vs. the likes of GP, FFR, etc.

Also, while the sidepipes will be polished, I was planning on saving a few bucks and getting the headers in natural finish since they aren't really visible. Any reason not to? I am also assuming the natural finish will hold up without rusting since it's still stainless and that I wont need to get it ceramic coated or anything, correct?

The primaries come in 1 7/8" and 2" sizes. I assume 1 7/8" is the best choice for a stock gen 2 coyote, correct?

Lastly, Gas-n gives two collector options, 4-Bolt and a Double Collector. Not sure what I want here - any input?

    Thanks!
    Jason

I've used both GP and Gas-N headers. In my experience they are very similar quality. Honesty can't recommend one over the other. Either are great choices. I haven't used FF Coyote straight tube headers. Their most recent version with the ball joint for adjustment looks interesting. But haven't used those either. Waiting for someone to report on them.

Regarding finish, both the GP and Gas-N are stainless, so won't rust. They will discolor some. But are nearly invisible in a Roadster, so wouldn't worry too much about the appearance. Some guys like ceramic coating because it's supposed to handle heat better. But in my experience, the Coyote controls combustion so well I don't think it's a big factor. I'm at nearly 6000 miles on the plain SS GP Headers in my Gen 2 Coyote Roadster. Zero issues. For a Coyote, you definitely want the double collectors with O2 bungs.

    Great - Thank you, Paul.

Sounds like natural finish SS and the double collector. Did you go with the 1-7/8" primaries?

Both the Gas-N (Gen 3 Coyote) and GP (Gen 2 Coyote) headers I have are 1-7/8".

I was thinking of my 351 engine and was going to post that the plain headers will be fine because the joint header to pipe is pretty well hidden so that contrast won't be seen. Then I see EdwardB post about a Coyote install. That really makes the headers hard to see so I'd go for plain also.

Just one more thought to toss in. I'm thinking of doing a ceramic coat on mine. My understanding is that it allows a more durable finish without discoloration and will assist with thermal insulation efforts. But I've yet to research in detail.
FFR MKIV ordered 12 July 2019. IRS, Wilwood Brakes, 18" Wheels w/MT tires, power steering, EFI, Heat. 347 Dart w/TKO-600 by Mike Forte, Holley FI, MSD coil and CD box. All new, no donor build.

I've had ceramic coating on two sets of 351w/427 headers, 7,000 rpm. I like the ceramic both inside and out for the potential heat reduction and retention. The internal heat retention assists with the flow, hot gas flows faster, the external heat reduction helps with underhood temps. Or so I've been told, I've not measured coated / uncoated measurements. I will coat the next set of headers for my build.

Mine started out as bright shiny silver but dulled with time and use. I've heard that the ceramic can be polished to bring back the shine, didn't try, was never important to me.

On sizes. I'll build 1-7/8" for the current build, these seem to work best with my motor. The other set was a similar design but 2" OD. These worked better at high RPM but were a bit soft under 5,000 rpm.

Not sure what you should choose on a Coyote that might spin to 7k +, but I think I'd select the 1-7/8" for the potential of a better bottom end torque. I would coat them.

    Jim
