Transmission Tunnel fits terribly!
I'm getting the transmission tunnel fit on the car. I read through all the posts, but could not find information on if I need to relieve the area above the driveshaft hoop. It's not allowing this to sit flat on the aluminum which in turn is not allowing the unit to fit tight against the fireawall. I have about 3/8" gap at the firewall. I also notice that the overlap between the side flanges of the fiberglass and the aluminum barely overlap for the anchors. Is this typical too? I also had to relieve a hole at the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder. It just seems like this piece does not fit very well....
*I also shoved the unit to the passenger side in lieu of hacking it down the middle for as much pedal room as I can get. Have others done this too?

I actually relieved those exact areas you have marked in your pic. I found that cuttin the tunnel in half just made it easier to work with. I can't say if it is better in the long-run (as it becomes two pieces you have to fit up), but I know it was easier to get in and out and work with.

I used a grinder in the areas you're referring to - thin out the fiberglass so it fits better on the aluminum.
I also cut the top/front of the tunnel and removed a small section. This allows both the driver and passenger sides to squeeze in a bit giving more footbox room.

Yep. I cut mine up in the front and used an angle grinder to relieve the driveshaft cover. If memory serves the instructions call out for modification.

Remember the instructions are a guideline (mostly) and you need to adapt everything to make this what you want. Nothing will get fit to the vehicle without some thought and planning.
