Short video of a drive along Colorado Hwy 86 into Franktown
I got the car out again for a drive today and wanted to test my new dash-mount for the GoPro. The sound quality is much better with the camera out of the wind, but the glare in the glass is a bit distracting.
I need to get serious about tuning the Sniper as it seems to be leaning out or dumping fuel any time I let off the accelerator and I get a lot of decel popping in the exhaust. I need to do some data logging to figure out which it is.

Papa,
Would there be a way to build a lens shade or a box around the camera up to the windshield to block the light from behind he windshield? This won't stop the glare coming through the glass but should minimize the reflection. The inside of the box should be flat black.
The sound is very good. Nice road.

Thanks for the idea. I think I can get a polarizing filter that might help.

A good place to start on the tune is look at the timing table on a laptop. The default map is pretty crappy. You need to add timing under light cruise and decel areas. That will help a bunch with the popping. It also has an abrupt jump in advance as the rpm increases which may make it seem kind of sensitive to throttle input. That needs to be smoothed out as well. Give me a shout if you would like some help with it. I've done a couple for other FFR owners. Get a good data log of where it's happening and it's pretty easy to fix. Since you are at higher altitude the fuel map may need some tweaking also. Self learning only goes so far.

Bob,
I'd appreciate any help you are willing to offer. Perhaps I could start a separate thread and document the entire process if you're up for that? I think it could be very beneficial for many using the Holley Sniper. I don't have any of the timing control stuff on my setup, just a standard setup with coil and distributor. My distributor does have vacuum advance. I have a timing light, the Sniper software on my computer, and a willingness to learn.

Hey Dave, I really enjoyed the vid. I watched it a couple times as well. And I can't wait for the Trail Ridge Road episode in the future? I took a drive w/fam yesterday to Estes Park, just to just get out and breathe some of CO's beautiful mountain air.
As for the new thread w/Bob's help to tune - DO IT! I know I'm planning on a Holley Sniper with my engine setup, so, I'm sure you, me and many others will benefit from the thread discussion.
Again, keep posting the cruising vids! For those who don't have their rides ready to roll or even those who don't have a kit as of yet, we dream and live through these kinds vids and they give us motivation to eventually "become the driver" in our own.

I like the way you cut the wind noise down. Let’s see that dash-mount for the GoPro, too.

Hey Bradley,
Two things helped with the wind noise. First, I got a "windslayer" foam cover for the microphone. My GoPro is a Hero 5 Session, so it's just a small cube. The dash mount I bought is this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ha, I have the same go pro and that very mount in the kit of miscellaneous mounts. It didn’t even occur to me yet to try that one. So you got an external microphone then. I have seen those too, but didn’t buy it yet.

No external mic -- just the foam to cover the built-in mic.

I have a similar video, may as well share.
I also need to learn about the mic and wind buffeting, although I have a newer GoPro than the one used in the video.

Enable Decel Fuel Cutoff for the popping.

Great vid NGE! I dig the format and capturing a den of cobras on the move! Yeah, rearview was cool! I can see capturing all kinds of various views takes the editing to the next level. I guess I'll have to get a cam once I graduate mine.

That's an interesting and cheap way of dealing with the wind issue, thanks. If you get an external mic you have to have their adapter just to plug it in and that alone is 40 bucks.
Here's my mountain drive video I did two weeks ago. It's 1080p, but I think you have to change the You Tube settings in the lower right corner:

I created a new thread to capture what I learn. Looking forward to figuring out this bit of technology.

Nice video. Acceleration sounds great! I bet you were ready to find cover or throw on the top if that dark cloud got any closer

I was keeping my eye on it, but not too worried. It wasn't as ugly in person as the camera made it look in the video.
