Plans for my build in the Cold Indiana Winter.
1st post
I want to start the NEW project this winter and looking for some feed back on my plan.
Plan A buy the salvage 5.0 2015 mustang and do my tear down this winter for the drive line. ( sell the other stuff from the car I don't need ) Then purchase the MK4 in the fall of next year for the build.
Plan B Buy MK4 complete kit and pcs the drive line together as I go. Still salvage the stuff as I go. (Don't want to spend the money for create motor and Tranny)

OK guys I have been doing a lot more research and I have a NEW plan.
I cant get away from my old school LOVE for power and cubic Inch. Going with a Man O'War small block 454
I am still deciding on the drive line 3 link or 4.
So looking at complete Kit with the discount of 3K that is awesome.
TKO 500/600 is that enough for this motor, it will be 500 plus at 460 toque at 10:1 carbureted
Sunset orange metallic with all black trim

I'm a bit confused. Aren't all 2015 Mustangs IRS? You mention 3 or 4 link in your plan. If you do go IRS, just pick up the rear clip. They are pretty widely available at reasonable prices now. No need for any of the rest of the car unless you plan to use the donor Coyote. I haven't seen anyone take that approach in the builds I've followed, so no idea what's involved from a wiring standpoint. The TKO 600 trans will handle the power you are planning and up to 600 lb.ft. of torque.

Not doing the first plan with the 5.0 and IRS.
Want the old school build, been doing a lot of reading on the site and I want a car I work on not program.
The only computer I want in this car is my smart phone in the glove box.

I ordered my 3 link rear with my kit. It came with all the braketry welded and ready to go in the car. I think you'll find the consensus for solid axle to be 3 vs. 4 link unless you're building a drag car.

Thanks, I watched a couple U-tube comparisons on this subject and they said the 3 link was better for turns/auto cross.
Also Good looking build thread, Papa

Prior the current IRS set up being offered, the 3-Link was the preferred suspension option for auto-cross and road-racing.
Like Papa, I went with the this set up because it plants the tires well while avoiding rear steer, tire hop and the suspension bind that you get with the 4-link set up.
You can see my lack of Tire Hop around 2:00 minutes into this video, plus your pinion angle is super easy to adjust.

The sweet spot for these cars is around 350 HP & Torque so a healthy 302 or 331 Stroker will drive well on a typical 200-300 tread ware series summer style tires.
In addition, once you get past the 400 HP/TQ you find that wheel spin comes in to play rather quickly and often in your first three gears so softer tires are needed.
Good luck & I'm Sure You'll Have A Great Build!
PS:.. Consider getting Jeff Kleiner to do the paint if you are searching for Show Quality over the top perfection especially since you live in Indiana!

Good to know about the HP & Torque for these cars. I keep forgetting the car only weighs 2200 lbs.
Thanks for the insight.

Please consider getting the assembly manual and reading it a few times before you order your kit if you haven't done so already.
In addition, check out Sir Edwardb's (Paul B.) MK-4 build threads because he's the best hobbyist builder there is.
His last to MK-4's build threads are shown below:
