    Gas Cap

I searched, but did not find, what I thought was there.
I was fitting parts onto the body, now that I have it close to being positioned on the chassis.
The gas cap, Stant brand, would not lock on the filler neck. The 3 tabs are too tall to go upon the shoulders inside the neck. After a little dressing of the plastic tabs, they cap twist out of the slots onto the shoulders.
Surprise the shoulders are not ramped.
The cap is snuggly in place, but I thought would tighten or hit a stop, neither happens.
What are some options on this?
20th Anniversary Mk IV, A50XS Coyote, TKO 600, Trunk Drop Box, Trunk Battery Box, Cubby Hole, Seat Heaters, Radiator hanger and shroud.

For quite some time F5 was providing the wrong cap to go inside the housing; sounds like maybe you got one of those. You want a Motorcraft-FC961 cap (https://www.amazon.com/Motorcraft-FC.../dp/B000C5FL84). I've lost the original thread, so I can't credit the builder who figured this out. Whoever you are, thanks!

Thanks for the info, sure makes it easier.
I think I will call FFR, no need in me spending $20.

Count me in on the same problem. Initially, the cap refused to come out and I ended up using pliers to pull up on it. Now the cap never gets to the clicks. Thanks for the part number to the motorcraft cap.

I thought I was doing something wrong. Mine will click and lock, but comes loose. When you try to turn it to open it, it doesn't move. After nearly breaking it, I accidently discovered I could simply pull it straight out like it wasn't closed. New cap ordered! Thanks for the info.

I talked to Jay at FFR about the cap. I have the 10832 Stant which cross ref with the Ford number posted. Jay checked their alum filler with the same cap I have. Naturally his fit, but he did find one with the rubber gasket not in place, which would increase the distance in question.
While I had him on the phone, I mentioned the metal where the tabs ride is flat. No ramps or stops.
I filed the plastic tabs down and got the cap to twist. There is some resistance with the cap in this position, but if I keep twisting the tabs will line up to remove the cap.
I do not understand the design.

I receive the new Motocraft gas cap from the link in post #2 above and after removing the tether, it is a perfect fit that actually works! Thanks for the tip.
