    Transmission Temperature Sensor Addition

I'm in the process of integrating a quad set of SpeedHut gauges around my instrument cluster (kudos to Mechie3) and am interested in knowing if anyone has added a transmission temperature sensor to the factory 5-speed tranny, and if so, where? I am thinking of drilling and tapping a suitable location about 4"-5" behind the passenger-side axle outlet in an empty 2"-3" aluminum quadrant. Any better ideas?

I was thinking of welding a bung on right next to the drain plug. But I have the 6 speed. It has a little like oil pan.

Very curious as to how hot it gets. Mine was hot to the touch after a 20 minute ride on the highway, but that’s not telling me much. I expect they run quite hot on track for sure. I have an in-line thermo-switch I’m going to use with a cooler on mine.

I'm swapping over to a 6 speed this winter and doing the same. A thermal bypass valve to the external cooler. Bypasses the cooler when the temp is below 180F and opens the circuit to the cooler when the temp gets over 180F. It also makes it super easy to put in a temp sensor when you have an external cooler.

When I recorded temps on my 5 speed before I added the external cooler it was quite hot, in excess of 280F after a long track session.
