    West System Filler

Has anyone used the West System products as a filler/ fairing? I used it years ago on a marine project similar to the use of the 3M HSRF and really liked it. Thoughts?

Never used the West but if it's like the HSRF you don't want to use it for finish work because it doesn't shape, sand or fair well.

    Thanks Jeff,
I was planning on using the Rage Gold for bodywork stuff the West was for where I cut a bit much on the door edge probably less than an 1/8

Instead of making the door bigger consider making the hole smaller:

Sometimes it's easier, quicker and potentially more structurally sound.

    Good luck either way!

Never used West on an auto related project but have weeks under a verity of different boats and always thought it did a great job. Start with the 406 collidial silica for general build up and gap filling and the finish with micro light for the finish coat. Their products are very high quality and job specific. Check their web site for the product selection matrix to get a better idea of what they offer.

I have also used West products on boats. I think it is a fantastic system. Their literature gives excellent instructions on the different fillers and what each does best. There may be a filler like HSRF but I haven't used it. The 3 or so I have used all worked well. I used it when I bonded my rear flares on also. It is all packed in a box now so I can't give the specific number filler but one characteristic I really like is you can mix it from pure epoxy thin to peanut butter thick by simply pouring in more powder and stirring.

Early on I used West and then found HSRF. HSRF is so much easier to work with...da bat
