    Heater Installation Question?

I am working on the Firewall and panel installation on my MK4 Roadster this weekend, at the rolling chassis point. I purchased the heater option from F5 and know that the standard install method basically eliminates the glove box. There is a comment on the firewall installation instructions about cutting the template holes for the heater prior to assembly. How can I install / route the heater components without giving up the glove box? I’m sure there is already an existing build thread on the subject- could someone help the noobie out please?

    Thanks, Jeff

Do a google search. A coupe of threads on FFCars forum cover this problem.

There are a couple options including building an extension box in the firewall that allows the heater to set more into the engine bay freeing up space for the glove box or I built a custom glove box. You can see details here:

My glove box is big enough for a phone, paperwork and a wallet measuring roughly 1.25” at the top and 1.5” at the bottom.

Here’s what I did. Allows for a 3 inch deep glove box. If you want a defrost duct on the passenger side some kind of plenum will need to be purchased or constructed. Not enough room above the heater/glovebox for the one supplied with the heater.

I got it all to fit with a full glovebox, but I used the firewall forward kit and that helps to avoid building an extension box and plenum. I even got the thing in there with a fathead Coyote, though it has no room to spare.

Let me know what questions you might have.
