Fuel Sender/Level Question
Just got around to calibrating my fuel tank and had a question. My tank gauge has always registered backwards. So when put my first few gallons in, it was registering 3/4" of tank instead of 1/4". This past week, I had about 3/4 tank (actually 1/4), and I put about 3 gallons of fuel in for a final go kart last week, and fuel gauge went to almost half way between 3/4 and 1/2.
From reading one of Edwardb's previous posts, the FFR default is 240-33ohms, which would make it read backwards. So I plugged in the wired button, entered calibration mode, then changed to 16-158ohms, and now the tank reads a little past 1/2 full and is going in the right direction as fuel is consumed. This is almost 1/4 tank more than what I had expected if compared to what I had on the opposite end before calibration. Should I be seeing the same amount of fuel reflected inversely before the calibration? So in other words, if I had 3/4 of a tank before calibration, would I expect to see 1/4 of a tank after calibration? I was thinking that because the 240-33ohms is not correct for my sender, that it may have been showing slightly incorrectly to begin with?

So I would say that the only way the gauge would read accurate and exactly backwards is if there were a setting in the gauge for 158-16 ohms, the exact opposite of the correct setting of 16-158... And then if there were, you could use the E and F backwards...
of course then the E & F could then represent
E = Enough
F = Fantasy (Cleaned it up for the children on the forum)

Are you doing a manual calibration or using the preset values? The preset value for our sending units is the 7/8 mark on the gauge.
***Selecting a calibration preset***
1. While gauge is powered up, press and hold button down for 10-12 seconds until pointer swings and stops at ‘1/8’ tank then release the button. You are now in calibration mode.
2. Press and release button to toggle between available resistive ohm options (see figure 1). Pointer will travel to each available setting with quick button press. At desired ohm range press and hold button down for 2 seconds to select that range.
3. Pointer will then travel to ‘E’ gauge will exit calibration menu and display current fuel level.
Note: On gauges with LED on front, the LED will blink 2 times to indicate the setting is saved.

I did the preset values, setting at 16-158ohms. I think mine was set at 240-33 from SH

The only other thing I can recommend is to remove the sender and make sure it cycles freely through its full range of motion. I've seen others describing issues that fixed themselves after they pulled the sender and cycled it a few times.
