I've been pinging David Hodgkins to create an area in the forum that's just dedicated to registration, titling and regulatory matters but no response.
I'd like to see a one stop shop area that does a roundup with everyone's experiences and reg updates when dealing with government.

This is great! I'm sure people in various states will add in their experiences. I do have a question for anyone in Massachusetts. I am completing my 33 hot rod and trying to decide if I should register and title in Mass or Vermont. The last couple of cars I have built have been registered in Vermont ( I own property in both states) due to the issues of meeting emission requirements. If I read this properly, as the car resembles a vehicle built prior to 1948, there is no statement about the engine having to meet current emissions. I know there is a way for later vehicles to circumvent the requirements by scrapping an older vehicle, but can I just go and get registered with my 1958 Buick Nailhead engine? All thoughts welcome.

I looked at Indiana and it doesn't tell the whole story. With that said though I've taken about 1/2 dozen through the process and we really don't have it very tough here---much easier and more reasonable than many states.

cob427sc, as a high level response, your car falls under the replica section of the code. That covers some of the registration process. For emissions exemptions, you can go the crusher route, or use a pre-73 date code engine block (thats what i did).
All of this is fairly well spelled out on the RMV site. I encourage all Mass builders to download and read the regs. It's not that bad if you have done your homework.
