Exclamation Ontario Insurance Cutting Kit Car Coverage

Just got a call from my broker, my GTM is no longer covered due to a insurance company merger.
He's looking for an alternative, and so am I. Not much luck after calling 8 companies/brokers.

Zehr almost helped out, but since the GTM is not a replica of a production car, I'm out of luck. This
will mean the same for the F9 coming into Ontario.

Thanks insurance. Thanks for leaving us high and dry after all of these years of coverage.

It's not looking good. I may have an expensive paper weight sitting in my garage. Maybe now a show car,
or make it a race car.

May end up selling to a US buyer if there's no coverage available.

    No longer covering:
Zehr - Cobra , and GTM "Case by Case"?
    Intact
    Hagerty
    Vintage Auto
    Desjardain (State Farm)

Who are you with in Ontario for the GTM?

Contact American National Property and Casualty and ask about their CHROME (collector product).

I don't know if they do any policies up north, but worth asking about.

Thanks for the lead, but they don't service Canada at all.

    Trying this service right now:

Also trying to contact Al Beix who has apparent knowledge of kit car insurers, but
his phone number is no longer connected? [403 275-8971]

    For those following along:

Still no luck finding a company/broker on my own. Today
my current broker phoned and suggested that he may
    have a possibility lined up.

The catch is, I need a new appraisal and THEN he can tell me
    if "they" will accept.

A bit *** backwards if you ask me, but I suppose it will be
good to have in the event the car sells.

I know there is shop in Northern Ontario that has 2-3 GTMs. I don't recall the name (Aaron?). If anyone has his contact info, please PM me.

Tino, I sent you a PM - I still have coverage and it was just renewed this past January. If this is the case that is occurring, either it will now cause insurance coverage to increase, or I will not be able to sell my car. I'm looking to sell my GTM this spring/summer.

Dave, I'm with the same broker you are with. You may have slipped by the deadline date as the merge happened in February.

Hopefully you can retain the coverage until the new renewal date?

Tino, there is no GTM's north of me. lol. Am I considered Northern Ontario to you big city folk? Are you referring to Ontario Kit Car Builder in Severn Bridge? last I heard he isn't building them anymore.

This is for sure troubling. Our Type-65 Gen 2 is considered a 'Cobra Coupe' on our current insurance slip from Zehr, so I'm hoping we can fall under the production/replica banner. Renewed my policy in the fall, fingers crossed.

Tino, because I renewed early January, I am actually full insured until Jan. 2021. I have almost a year to find insurance coverage now. Or sell as I think I am headed in that direction. Anyone interested in a GTM?? Can I sell a finished kit car to someone in the USA?

SingleMalt - you should be good as yours is considered a replica. The GTM is not a replica, here lies the problem.

    Dave,

The guy I'm thinking is named Dalton. He lives in Severn Bridge.

As for insurance I think I've found a broker to help out. When I say think...it's because he represents Zehr insurance.
When I called the office in New Hamburg, the told me the GTM was not acceptable, but the Cobra kit was insurable.

Then I received a referral to a broker names Scott who says the GTM is fine and already represents Zehr! This is
getting ridiculous, but I'll try to find out the ambiguity.

    :/

Wow, it HAS been a while! I'm doing alright, but I must admit, the lockdown has taken the "wind from my sails". I haven't touched, or even thought about my car
    for about 2 weeks.

The best source I have for insurance coverage is Scott at Zehr insurance. Message me for his number and email.

Take care, hope to hear from you soon.

The GTM is covered once again (for now). Zehr Insurance was able to help me out (Milverton Location). The office in New Hamburg said, no?

I have no idea why offices allow it, and some don't. At this point, I don't care! We live to drive another year (at least)!
