    Shifter for T56 Magnum

    Hello, everyone!

I will be installing a Gen 3 Coyote married to a T56 Magnum transmission. I prefer using the rear shift position. I am looking to replace the FFR shifter with a better (and hopefully better looking) aftermarket shifter. I will want to replace the knob as well since the FFR knob depicts a 5-speed. What aftermarket shifters have you all used and how did you specify it to get the "right size?" Also, does anyone have experience with adding a reverse lockout?

    Thanks!

    David

I too am running a 6-Speed (ZF not Tremec) so I went with this ball from Lokar using the stock shifter from Factory Five:

The boot ring also came from Lokar, but the boot itself came from Scott Drake

You can see how it turned out in this video:

    Hope this helps!

Im using a TR6060 but my shifter is in what is the front position in the t56 mag so I cant help there. I am using my engine computer to control the reverse lockout, currently set to lock out at any speed over 3 mph. Its just a 12V solenoid that allows reverse when power is sent to the solenoid, so wire in 12V from whatever source you want to control the reverse lockout and wire the other side of the solenoid to ground.

Why do you want to use the rear position? The furthest forward position in mine is almost the perfect location with a vertical stick. My suggestion would be to wait until you have your seat location set before deciding on location. You also need your seat location set in order to decide what stick height to use regardless of which location you pick.

Thanks very much! Your video is gorgeous! Did the body shop do all the body work for you (grinding the seams, fitting, gapping and edging the doors, trunk and hood)?

I have always loved the look of the "tilted forward" shift handle. In addition, that's what they used in the build school I went to, and it felt extremely natural for me.

Interesting. While I am sure the vertical position would result in a more natural and better shifting experience, most on here feel the tilted position is good AND undoubtedly closer matches the original. In any case, you need to have the seat positioned and engine/trans situated in order to measure for the best arrangement for your personal setup. You want to be able to put your hand where you want to be shifting from once you are seated and belted in, and measure from there. Anything else is a compromise and guess, which if you are getting a different stick and shifter base you might as well get it set up perfect for yourself.

Cant help much with a shifter, but for a knob, RaceEng makes awesome products. Can have a knob custom built with what you want, they weight feels good and had one for over 5 years and still almost looked brand new. Depending what kind of shifter you get, you can get the knob to match the threads/notch.

Yes & No is the only way I can answer your question.

I smoothed everything out and then I got my pal Sammy to do the real bodywork.
I pulled the lines down with a 2" Mini D/A Sander then blocked the car by hand before calling in The-Sam-Man.
Sammy knocked the hard work out quickly before allowing me to do the gapping by hand which was a pain.
He works for my other pal Ernie (Dependable Paint & Body) which is where we shot the car.
I knew that I had run out of talent, but thankfully I knew where to find it.

    David,

I am running a t-56 behind a Gen 2 Coyote in my roadster, this is the shifter handle I am using. You will have to ream out the holes slightly to get the mounting bolts to go through. I love the position this handle has, right off the steering wheel where you can grab gears.
