That is close. Watched the videos. Looks like fan blade damage or failure caused a lot of vibration and some parts left. Glad the whole engine didn’t separate. The pylon is designed to shed the engine to protect the wing if things get too bad. Same checklist for severe damage or separation where I work. Nicely done by the crew.

Yep, you were really close to the free supply of honeycomb
One thing that video shows is that Boeing and G.E build a heck of a gravity defying machine and staying cool under pressure has its rewards...

I paused the video posted and took a screen shot. One of the fan blades broke off or bent back at the root and one snapped halfway out. The severe imbalance knocked a bunch of pieces off. Lucky the engine stayed on. That could have caused a lot more damage on the ground.

I'm always impressed by how calm the pilots are in these emergencies. It takes a special breed to deal with situations like this. My hat is off to all you that fly these things for a living!

Don’t kid yourself. It is almost all training. We are in the SIM every 6 months and deal with that or a very similar failure multiple times. The instructors will give us that failure after V1, just before takeoff, with 600 feet of visibility and we fly it away and deal with it airborne. It becomes like riding a bike. If you have to think about it you’re in trouble.
