Box side panel measurements

I am installing the box side panels. When I put them in place c/w the proper gap at the front and body lines in line. These are the measurements I get on the box. I put a level on the bed and it is dead on. From the box floor to the bend is 5 1/2” at one end and 6 1/4” at the other. The front edge of the box side is perfect to the back of the cab. Any thoughts?

I've not gotten that far with mine. But in my build notes I do have some feedback from Ron E. (who's built at least a couple of these) that this is typical. To make it less noticeable, he describes raising the back of the bed slightly and adjusting the angle at the cab. Hopefully he will see this and provide more detail.

so a couple things to note.You can move the cab a bit .. a little bit makes quite a bit of difference. The other thing you really want to pay attention to is to make sure you put the roll pan in when setting up the bed... you can have the bed too far forward to the point that the roll pan will hit the gas tank straps. I only mention that since in the picture this looks a little close.

This ended up being too close... I had to cut off the mounts since I was too far along.

I cut the gas tank strap hinge as well. I didn’t use the tailgate hinges or latch and chains. That was all part of my plan to have a fixed tailgate. I cut the roll pan in half and attached it to the tailgate. I cut the upper hinge on the tailgate and extended it on both ends . Rob image.jpgimage.jpg

I spot welded the front piece to the bottom. installed 2" angle on inside of bed sides front to rear and made box measure square every which way and then just shimmed it up to match the body lines where needed. Also made corner brackets up front to bolt the quarters to front panel. I made so bottom can be removed easily and or the bed sides as well for easy access to anything you might need to get to. I also relocated my gas filler to behind tailgate so made that operational but used some different latches inside so did not have the chains and hooks hanging. I eventually made a removable wood bed with trap door for the battery. Its all matter of preference Lots of guys just made the bed one piece so can remove all at once.
