My partially completed kit sat for a few years not running. Now that it runs again the rear main seal leaks badly. Can I pull the T5 without the engine?

Not sure how complete "partially completed" is but in theory, yes, I would imagine you could if you remove the trans tunnel, drive shaft and then remove the T5 from the top of the vehicle (of course after disconnecting any wiring, & unbolting it).
This is at least how I envision doing mine if ever needing it.

I pulled an AOD out (twice, thanks TCI !) from inside the car. I had to remove the seats and tunnel cover. It wasn't fun, but better than pulling everything from the front.
Thanks I was hoping for better news as I sold my engine hoist a while back. My top is not removable at this point. Was hoping F5 had come to their senses about removable transmission crossmembers. I was able to remove it on my MK2 Roadster with a little bit of trouble.

If the tail of the T5 wouldn't be in the interior of the 33 you probably could drop it from below but I'm not sure there is enough room to slide it back from the engine and then angle it down under the car through the floor opening. I could be wrong, I haven't stared at it in a while.
