    FF5 supplied windshield kit

It probably doesn’t surprise anyone trying to install the supplied windshield wiper kit that installation is a real PIA. Like all the electrical parts in the coupe kit, I hooked up a motorcycle battery to check on operation. In our kit the motor was labeled LucasIndia and the wiper boxes were labeled Rainstar. Right off the bat the motor when wired through the supplied switch would only run on hi speed and wouldn’t park. I finally removed the can and found some the brushes weren’t making contact with the armature. A bit of readjustment had everything working normally… for now. Unfortunately when everything was buttoned up and the the wipers were tried, the motor quit halfway it’s stroke leaving the wipers stuck in the middle of the windshield!

The India made wiper wheel boxes created another problem- the spiral drive cable fit on the gear was so poor that we ended up ordering new wheel boxes made in England, one from Moss Motors and the other through R.D. Entprises, a lotus parts supplier. We also picked up a set of English wiper arms and blades. A new English Lucas motor was sourced from Moss. As of this morning, everything’s working and we even have the arms parking on the left side where they should be.
