Gen 1 front clamshell gas struts

Gen 1 owners...for your front clamshell struts, how much force (pounds per side) are your struts? I just replaced mine and the ones on the car (previous owner) were 28lbs per side. The new ones do hold the clamshell up on their own, but it doesn't take much to push it down either. So I'm curious what other folks are using. Thanks in advance!

This is why we would use a piece of aluminum channel the length of the prop rod shaft exposed when open. Use a small piece of rubber (1/4" wide 1" long) over the prop shaft and press the channel over the rubber on to the prop shaft. Now the hood will not close until you remove the aluminum channel.

I have some small "C" clamps to hold mine up. Any wind and it will not stay up. The clamps are made for this and have a brass tip so they don't damage the strut.
