Seat belts - EXPIRED? What the heck?

I opened the boxes of seat belts for the very first time and they expired in 2020. How long are they good for? What to do now? These must have come with the kit in 2018, I'm sure they're just fine but it seems crazy they have an expiration date when it takes most of use a few years to complete our builds. The ones in our regular vehicles don't expire, why would these be different?

They are competition harnesses which have an SFI rating. To be legal for competition they have to be inspected and recertified every 2 years. If you aren’t racing where they have to meet compliance it doesn’t matter.

I know, seems crazy. The harness I received with my Coupe kit in 2021 had an expiration date 6 mos after I received the kit. Didn’t matter for me since I was going to use a different harness anyway….
