1997 Jeep XJ (Cherokee) : Apocalypse Vehicle, 4.5" lift, ARB locker, 34" tires
1983 Lotus Turbo Esprit : Mid-engined, turbocharged 4 cylinder... remind you of anything?

They look great... but they stay clean for about 2 hours. And you can't just wash it, you have to wax it too because there are always spots.

I wanted to know how it would look if the top of the door was dropped a little to make for easier exit if the door is stuck. This is my lame hack with MS Paint. Best I can do but I think it has potential and might even look good:

I like that Gulf one. The orange one looks pretty cool as well. I would like to see one in a nice burgundy.

Going to make some changes again to the coupe......lol as jimgood pointed out about the side window height. I have been working on the side view using the cad drawing from FFR website (not sure on how accurate it is) that I scaled out. Once I get that done, it will help me figure out the 3/4 view to make better changes.

For those concerned about the side window height, think of the side windows on the GTM and the 65 Coupe.

I think one has to be a contortionist with a very small head in order to exit through the window opening in the GTM or 65 Coupe, especially when the seat has to have a left side head restraint. But I'm not sure if it just looks worse than it is.

Black shows every spec of dirt & dust, as well as every little imperfection. It requires a much higher level of care with regard to the finish to keep the shiny, beautiful look. For me, it's just too much work. I'd rather have another color than a poor looking one in black.

Cool.....this car actually does look better with a big A$$ wing.

    72 Pinto Wagon ,306" 1/4 miler

Thank you for contributing xscott. It does look really nice in black, maybe even a flat black like the GTM photo of the month.
Just a thought, but I think the high wing might be key to visually counterbalancing the nose.

    Keep having fun with these!

    Cheers!

I don't love the "big *** wing" so I put together a quick mockup of a more sensible wing.

I wonder, with this wing and top, if this wouldn't be a good setup for the high mileage version of the 818.

I like that, but I personally think a wing like on a 1994-95 MR2 would look much better.

Also not a fan of big honkin' wings. I really like what you did with the mini wing. Adds balance without adding poser.

Wing = drag though, right? The mileage coupe is supposed to be a different body design, something low drag. But I am betting we will eventually see more than one 'coupe' body design. The mileage one, and maybe a targa w/hard panel of the current, maybe something where the targa panel can be made fixed, etc.

Wing = drag, but spoiler = lower COF.

If it is to generate downforce than yes, but to prevent tumbling air from creating eddy force than that is good for MPG.

It isn't out of the question that the high mileage coupe look like one of driestone's designs.

    It is all about choices….

Each of us making the car that we want for ourselves with the 818 Factory Five delivers to us. This thread is focused on what we can make from what Factory Five is planning to offer us in early 2013. There is no such thing as a do it all car at any price. What impresses me about the varied ideas that are being presented in this thread is seeing how many different ways the existing 818 design can be tailored. This is really good news for those (such as me) who want to build sooner than later.

Perhaps we will end up encouraging third party vendors (or even Factory Five) into offering some of these add-ons for us. The possibilities include:

Removable Hard Tops, Removable Targa Hard Tops, Spoilers, Aero Packages: Wings (static, adjustable, dynamically adjustable), Splitters, Diffusers, Vinyl Appearance "Kits" and others....

I look forward to seeing what your creative minds will come up with. I like Driestones 818 design and my 818 Super GT, just in different ways. I hope these get others creative juices flowing. It is a kit! What can we make from it?

Please endeavor to keep the tenor of this thread positive.

    Cheers!

    Thanks xscott,

I like your subtle wing addition. Your tone on tone black gives a neat effect.

I think or wish they would scale down this body :

I'm of the mindset that it would probably be in the best interest of all "wookie" types, that any coupe iterations be considered with a butterfly or gullwing engress and egress. ... besides the cool factor.
If at first you don't succeed ... get a bigger hammer.

I really like the idea of a roof for this car. I hope that FFR builds one soon after they introduce the roadster. That's what it would take for me to buy one. Nice rendition!

the design looks great but I have to agree with some who said the side windows would have to be much higher into the roof or the roof itself would need to be higher, to be functional.

    I'd venture a good 2" up higher,

Hope this isn't too noob of me, I love all of your designs, but has Factory Five officially announced that they would be offering a hard top in the future? Thanks.

It's been a goal of FFR to eventualy have many body styles, what Dave calls swatch watch approach. A race version, a roadster, and a high mileage version. Most assume the high mileage version would be a hard top. What they will look like is very much in the air.
