818 Donor Kits; Donor Beta Program Open To Participants

    Hello everyone!
Wanted to offer this on the forums for future 818 owners. We are running a beta donor kit program, of up to 10 participants. Let me know if you have any questions!

    Donor Beta Program

When: Applications and deposits will be accepted immediately and remain open until our beta count is full, or until the end of July 2012. We will be accepting 10-12 beta participants based on demand.

Name WRX or N/A Impreza Donor Stage Type

    1. Matthew Kohler /WRX/ Stage 3

    2. Derek Ferguson /WRX/ TBD

    3. Ethan Huwe / WRX/ Stage 2 or 3

    4. "Silvertop" / N/A / TBD

    5. Tim Hazelwood /WRX / TBD

    6. Fred Struve / WRX/ Stage 2 or 3

    7. Factory Five Racing /WRX/ TBD

    8. Craig Gill/WRX/Stage 3

    9. Joshua Riaille/ WRX/ Stage 1

    10.

Note* You do not have to choose which staged package you may want until you pick your donor when we release them (you can decide once you choose your donor and make a decision on what route you want to take with it). If you have trouble deciding let us know your needs and we will be happy to help.

    Time frames:

We will be closing the beta program for additional participants July 31 2012.

July 31 Update- The beta donor kit program will remain open to new and additional participants past July 31 (today) until the list is filled. Any questions or concerns; let us know! Shipping of the kits is still on target for October. Thanks, Andrew

September 21 Update- As we expect donor spot number 10 to be filled over the next 48 hours or so we have almost reached our goal of 10 participants for the donor beta kit run. This means that we now can move to the next step of finalizing incoming donors, and preparing them for all participants. Due to the time frame it took for the donor program to fill up, we will officially be releasing the kits for your choosing by November 15 2012, as opposed to the recent goal of mid October. This is because of the amount of time it took for us to reach 10 participants, and also because we will be at SEMA for a week in October, so that also pushes things back as well. Thanks, Andrew

Beta donor options will be exposed for participants to choose their donor about 2-4 weeks prior to them shipping

    Some of what is included:

818 Donors is to provide everything needed (hardware related, not labor) in the beta donor kit that the customer needs to “plug and play” into a Factory Five 818 kit car.

    http://818donors.com/what-is-included/

    * Subject to change as 818 enters production*

Purpose: The purpose of this beta project is to allow us to do a small quantity production run of our donor kits in order to assess our business model and means of production /assembly. In exchange the beta participants will be able to get a head start on their future 818 by having a 818donors made kit ready for plug and play installation, as well as a discount on the purchase.

    How it works:
Prior to the finalizing and shipping of the donors (Date TBD) we will present the beta team with 10 to 15 donor packages to choose from. The available 10-15 donors will be claimed by the beta team members in which the order that their order/deposit was received. Simply meaning; beta team member #1 on the list will have first choice to choose the donor package they want to use for their 818 platform, etc. After the donor platforms are chosen we then will modify according to your needs by implementing any of our staged donor packages (7 to choose from in total) such as Stage 1, 2, or 3; as well as the “Go Green” N/A kit, the Base Donor Economy Kit (WRX), the “Make Your Own” kit, or the “We Design” kit.

The appropriate modifications will then be made to the donor you end up claiming as your own, and they will ship to their new homes once they are finished.

Pricing: The exact pricing will vary slightly based on what staged kit (of the 7 ) you choose, as well as what donor you choose. Below is some information in regards to variations in pricing on a unit to unit basis:

Why do the donor kits not have standardized pricing?

Just like all used cars sell for different prices, our 818 donor packages sell for different prices as well. There are many different factors which contribute to price fluctuations with our kits. You are basically buying a car from us, but one that is modified to a specific purpose of meeting your goals and bolting right up to a FFR 818 chassis.

Like buying a used car, prices are different based on certain conditions (see below). Because of this we are unable to offer a standardized set of prices to our customers:

Mileage of donor- key factor to determine pricing; just like buying a car

Condition of donor- how much work did we need to do to it?

Initial cost of goods to be sold- prices vary based on who is selling them

Labor involved with producing the donor for you

    Demand and market values

Deposit Amount: The deposit amount is $5,000.00 USD for this short production beta run. remaining balance due when donors are ready to ship.

For the N/A “Go Green” kit this is about 80% to 100% of the total cost associated with this donor project. The remaining balance is to be paid when the donor is complete and ready for shipment.

For the WRX donor participants pricing will vary based on what kit is chosen, and what donor you choose (year and mileage of donor contribute to price differences). The anticipated estimated range is from $6,000.00 – $8,000.00+ for WRX donor platforms based on what donor you choose, and what staged kit you want. We will not have exact pricing until the donors are sourced and prepped for beta team release. From that point on once you choose your donor you have complete control over pricing depending on what route you decide to take, we will work with you every step of the way. The staged packages will also be discounted.

We will have a diverse group of beta team members, as well as a diverse group of donors to choose from so we are confident that you will have access to the right donor to meet your needs. We will publicly announce the donor choices for participants to choose their donors

Note* You do not have to choose which staged package you may want until you pick your donor when we release them.

    Payment Methods:

    Paypal ([email protected])

    Certified Bank Check

    Credit Card

    Shipping:

These will be shipping via freight on wrapped pallets

Questions you may be asking yourself:

How does 818donors know what to include in the donor kits when the 818 is not even in production yet?

We work very closely with Factory Five and follow the 818 every step of the way as it gets closer and closer to production. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity and relationship with them in the development of the 818, and in return allow us the ability to offer this service for you, especially this early on.

What happens if Factory Five makes a last minute change and a certain part becomes needed that I did not get with my 818donors beta kit?

If this discovery is made, you will have any last minute parts mailed to you free of charge.

When will the beta donors be shipping?

We are aiming for September-October 2012 ship all beta donor kits.

Will the beta donor kits be covered under warranty like the “production” kits will be?

Yes, this first run will be fully covered by our warranty, with full customer and technical support from a 818donors representative.

What else is expected of me?

Feedback is the most important aspect of this run. You will be asked to submit a document consisting on 818donors questions, but also a place to submit any journal entries or walkthroughs which were created as you build your 818.

We look forward to working with you on your build. Please do not hesitate to ask any additional questions!

Click on the wording below to fill out an order form, then email it to us; [email protected]

    About us:

    http://818donors.com/about-us/

Our History: We have been involved in the Subaru community for almost a decade now specializing in performance and high quality race/ street car builds. Building cars is in our blood, and Subaru is our DNA. When you purchase a donor kit or turn key 818 from us you are not only purchasing the product which is a result of our 10 years of experience, but 24 hour customer support and expertise as well. Our staff members are qualified and experienced in the industry and capable of walking you through or answering any inquiry you may have. We are happy to help!

Our experience: Our experience in the field has enabled us to offer the best products and methods of service possible for your 818 application due to years of expertise in Subaru service, racing, personal interests, trial and error, and testing of products that work; staying away from the ones that don’t.

Benefits: What are the benefits to going with an 818 donor kit from us?
The answer is: Getting a quality donor that works; peace of mind!

Quality Tested Donor Kits: Getting a quality donor kit that works is what will determine whether you can complete your 818 kit successfully the first time around; keeping it fun and stress free, properly built, and affordable. All of our vehicles go through a meticulous inspection process and are fully tested before being released to our customers. When you open up a donor kit from 818parts you are guaranteed a healthy, 100% functioning platform to work with, and this eliminates any of the guess work or uncertainty associated with purchasing a wrecked Subaru from an auto salvage or private party to use as your donor.

Replacements: If something needs to be replaced, it is done so prior to being put up for sale, this includes engine components, transmission, and all associated electrical and structural hardware. Additional replacement parts are also available from our performance shop in our online store for upgrades and customization. All donors are tested from engine compression and leak down tests, to receiving new hardware and bushings if needed!

What You Get: What is received is what is needed, save the scrapping and waste to us. When you order a kit from us you get exactly what you need, down to the last nut and bolt. The joy for most of us with getting a kit car is the process of building it, then driving it. The messy and frustrating donor aspect of stripping the needed parts and discarding the ones you do not need is now eliminated. No more snapped nuts and bolts, or seized turbo studs, no more disappointments with getting used components that do not fit or run correctly, we do all that for you. We even eliminate the occurrence of messy used oil spills by discarding all the waste fluids for you. Many kit car builders build their kits in their home garage, where space is limited and time is limited. A wrecked Subaru donor takes up a lot of time to disassemble and space; the shell, doors, bumpers, sub frames and hood are bulky and time consuming to take apart and try to sell or properly recycle/throw away. The bulky donor can take up valuable garage space which is crucial for building your kit, not to mention these parts have the potential to gather dust in the corner of your garage or shed for eternity.

Go Green: We help YOU Go Green. 818kits is a “Go Green” operation and we eliminate any contaminated/ environmentally hazardous aspects of building your 818 out of the equation for you. We properly dispose of all your used fluids which a donor comes with including; engine oil, gear and differential fluid, coolant, power steering fluid, and more (you receive new fluids for free with our Stage 1 and up Kits)! We also recycle all the unnecessary damaged body panels which often come off of a donor car which are irrelevant to the 818, including the shell and uni body which is bulky and hard to dispose of when not able to roll around freely in your garage once taken apart. Even old rusty and seized sub frames and hardware (which love to rust out on Subaru) get brought to the proper place! The only thing left is the satisfaction on our faces for taking the proper measures in disposing hazardous waste and scrap metal, not to mention the time and hassle we saved you, by not having to disassemble a donor car.

Will you be featuring donors only from the 2002-2007 wrx, and Impreza, or will you have drivetrains from compatiable donors (pre 2002 Imprezas, foresters, ect.

I was also curious as to what the price range would be for the different stages 1,2, and 3. or even base without engine?

The base donor package does come with an engine, it just does not have any performance orientated extras.
The stage 1 kit will be from 500.00+ than the base kit.

We do not plan on using pre 2002 platforms, unless we needed to.

It sounded too good to be true but I think you guys at AJW are taking the concept of donor pallet to a completely different level. Good luck, WEK.

One concern on the site has been the superflous wiring in a WRX. Any plans on doing either a stand alone wiring harness or a harness modification program?

    AJW,

I know this is probably too early in the game to predict what you could do but I along with some others are waiting for a different version of the 818 so the build can not practically fit into this beta program. Have you had any input about this and have you had time to consider something that would perhaps mimic this one: sort of like a second beta program for the different (coupe or targa) version? Just thinking ahead. Thanks for your thoughts on this in advace, WEK.

I'm not sure the average WRX has that much extra stuff. For the first two years ('02-'03) WRXs were pretty basic. Later years (and STIs) added options (sunroof, heated seats, etc), but not sure what the take rates were.

Power windows, door locks and HVAC are about the only things to drop. Of course there is the ABS debate. But the weight saved from those is minimal (maybe 5 pounds or less for the wiring)

Other items on the 'maybe' list might include the radio, domelight, foglights, power mirrors?

The wiring in our donors will be cleaned up and labeled properly.
Stand alones will be offered for those who could benefit from it, but will not be standard of course

    AJW,

How will the donor pallets be shipped? Will there be coordination with Stewart Transport to reduce trucking fees?

This might be a stupid question, but are all the parts cleaned before shipping? Also, what would be the cost of a stock 2007 WRX donor? Thanks.

They will be shipped freight secured on pallets. Stewart can be an option for sure.

Hello, good question actually. YES items are tested and cleaned prior to being considered part of your kit.

Since you guys are so close to FFR, maybe you could come up with a shipping program where kit and pallet shipped together? (as an option, not everyone using AJW would want to do it that way, but likely many would)

Good idea, it has come up before. FFR and us decided although at first glance it sounds like a good idea, for business purposes it is best to keep them separate. I appreciate the suggestion though!

You guys posted a pic of an engine build earlier.... It was Tom's or someone like that I think. You said something about colored silicon components, paint etc.... My engine arrives tomorrow and then we'll be shipping it straight to you, how much would any of that stuff cost by chance?

I can put together some options for you.
    Silicone hose kits such as;
    turbo inlet
    afta maf
    intercooler
    axillary
    etc...
Affordable way to dress up your engine bay, and also replace components with more durable silicone ones.

I may be mistaken but I don't see wheels and tires on the list of included parts in your web-site. That's definitely something we will need. Are wheels and tires included in the donor kits? Thanks.
