I am posting this thread as a warning of a potential problem for racers who did the new engine upgrade. I have had quite a bit of trouble with the upgrade, turns out I have had bent crankshafts now on two occasions...ouch! This has lead to repeated engine tear downs, the first after just twenty dyno runs and the second after only twenty or so laps on the engine.
During these tear downs the camshaft was examined and on both occasions the cam was found to be abnormally grooved by the lifters. After the first episode a new cam was installed and it too was grooved in the short time before the next teardown. All trick flow top end parts were used, spring seat pressures to spec, stock replacement lifters per the rules. The engine work was performed by a very reputable race engine builder. Cams have been sent to Trick Flow for evaluation.
With the massive expense and downtime from this nightmare I am now bowing out of the series, but feel you should all be aware of this potential problem. If you have to tear down the top end of your engine for any reason take a good look at your cam! Mine have both been sent back to Trick Flow and we are working towards a solution.
For me, I am converting my car to street use and putting in a custom grind Comp Cams unit...and a new crankshaft! Best of luck to all.
