    The Original "California Kid"

This month's March issue of SEMA News has a really cool look back article on the original California Kid Hot Rod.

On the side of a California road is Pete Chapouris and the very famous '34 Ford three window during the filming of The California Kid. Next to Pete is a young Martin Sheen, who 40 years later would be the father of a man with Adonis looks and tiger blood (that is indeed a sad joke).

The car is just so cool I had to share the photo.

The car still looks great today. The Kid, combined with Jake's coupe, Norm Grabowski and the owner of both cars makes for a fun afternoon. I'm glad that I brought a camera.

Hoooo ... I love that rod! The movie was ... well, but the rod! I must have been around 10 when saw that beast for the first time and never forget it.
Could it be a reason why I migrate to CA?!

I think most people visualize that car when they hear hot rod. Too many fenders for me but what a famous ride, pretty cool.

Love the car. It is the reason I've wanted a 34 5 window coupe since I was a kid. However finding an all steel car that wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg and get it to Canada was going to be pretty much impossible.
Then I read about Factory Five in Hot Rod and the wheels started turning.
Here is what my 33 Hot Rod hopefully will look like. The paint will be flat black starting out and maybe forever.

ETA..this was a fast photoshop job of the red 33 from the FFR web site.

I recently bought "The California Kid" on Amazon and might try to watch it this weekend. Figured I'd pick it up to add to and help build my car movie collection. The car in "The California Kid" looks cool in the magazine, but I bet it looks even better in motion.

I watched The California Kid this last weekend. Gad Nick Nolte sure looks young there - chain smoking, just like we'd expect.
