    Fuel tank ?

I have hot rod #519 I have read alot about the FFR supplied fuel tank issues, does anyone know it they have been fixed since I have a newer chassis or should I just go ahead and buy a tank from Boyd like most other people have?

With all due respect to Factory 5... The supplied tank is really sub par. Call Dave Boyd. You'll need a new fuel gauge too. Available at summit for about 50 bucks. 0-90 ohm. Here is a link and pic of both supplied one and new one. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/atm-1904

Aaron, my car is being picked up tomorrow, and I should have it in a week. Please let us know what you decide, as I am in the same boat.

Guess I will go ahead and purchase a Boyd tank, thanks for the info Hdnik. Also will the factory five supplied fuel tank parts work with the Boyd tank? The only thing I need to by is the fuel gauge?

No the f5 stuff won't work. I assume you are building a carb car? If so you can go with Dave's lowest price tank... He can for about 100 bucks weld in a pick up and a proper roll over vent and sending unit. Go with what he recommends for your application. Ditch all the factory five stuff.

According to the website, the vent and pickup are included. I just emailed them to find out if there is anything else we need. I will post once I hear back from him/them.

I just looked again. You are correct in the pick up is included... The rollover vent and sending unit are optional from him... They only put in the NPT thread for the vent and flange for the sender. For Under 100 the install both if you buy both from him... But the tank is set up to accept your own.

I'm petty sure the vent in the kit won't work and the sender definitely won't

I bought the whole 9 yards from Boyds. It has worked out great. I had to buy a differant fuel gauge but it is worth it to me.

Ditto, IMHO it was the best money I've spent. Just pick up the phone and call Dave... He's a super guy.

Got what maybe a dumb question...what did you guys do with the old tank? Cut it up and recycle? Just take it to the junk yard? I am curious as I too will be using the Boyd's.

Nothing yet. Still in the box. Not sure if anyone would buy it or even take it.

I am about to install the tank and unless I am not seeing clearly, the gas inlet is about half way down on the tank, not on top. What am I not understanding here?

    thanks

Why is the new gauge required for Boyd's tank? As I stare at the FFR tank, it looks like a simple fix would be to move the gas inlet up 6 " or so. What am I missing here?

The sender for the boyd's tank is a differant ohm range. It is well worht the cost to convert IMO. The differance is night and day.

Any builders on the West coast NOT using the FFR supplied tank please send me a PM, I am willing to pay shipping to Fresno, CA for a tank that you are not going to use.

When you've got a spare 2 hours click on "VENDORS" at the top of the page you're on now and run through all their products and services. You will find so much information right there.
