Having Trouble Removing SN95 Hub Nut

Got the first one off relatively easy. The other one is impossible. The socket keeps slipping off. Any suggestions?

And what is that toothed ring on the hub for? Can I remove that?

    Thanks

The toothed ring is the tonal ring for ABS. Sell it in the classifieds. New, the '95's are ~$35 each on fordparts.com, part# 2C189.

Dunno. Greg_M is the ABS guru. Search for him here or over on FFcars forum.

From another forum I just read that: they need to be pressed on/off and most likely will break coming off, so many folks that need to replace them just get new spindles/axles instead. Hopefully, someone with actual experience will jump in here. Don't take the chance of messing up the spindles.

    Cheers, Dale

Some use a dremel or cold chisel and split them to release the pressure, they slide off. Others ignore them. New parts often come with them, they don't do anything if the ABS system isn't installed.

I noticed the caged nut consisted of several thin nuts. Any reason for that?

I have removed several ring and replaced them on different rear axles but I don’t know if the fronts work the same. I just used a small block of aluminum and a hammer to drive them off. I worked my way around the ring so it wouldn’t tilt to one side and jam. To replace them I heated them up to about 275 F and dropped them on. After they cooled I used the same block of aluminum and hammer to make sure they were seated on the shoulder.
