Steering Column Location on Blank Dash
I am planning on a having Nick Acton build me a 289 Street dash for my car so I ordered a blank dash with the kit. I am going send the blank dash to Nick for reference as he had not built a FFR 289 dash (he does have 427 versions).
I offered up the dash to the chassis with the steering column installed and it appears that the steering column hole in the dash is offset ~1.5" to the right.
There is a small hole in the top center of the dash and having marked the center of the dash hoop that hole is 1.5" to the left of the dash hoop center.
If I look at the overhang of the dash ends the drivers side is longer than the passenger side by the same 1.5".
Measuring the distance from the drivers edge of the dash to the center of the installed steering column it is 18".
So is my dash made incorrectly or am I missing something in the way that it installs?
hope the attached pictures help explain the situation!

Your dash is made correctly. It's common to have to cut some of the ends off and one end is longer than the other. If measuring the "center" using the overall width it will seem to be offset. But the ends aren't symmetrical. The steering wheel cutout I believe is correct. Full disclosure, I've only done Mk3 and Mk4 427 style dashes. Not the 289. Looking at the Factory Five parts page, they list the blank dash #11194 for Mk3 and Mk4 Roadster. It appears that's the one you have. They do have a 289 dash (#16998) with gauge cutouts. Not what you'd want for a custom layout of course. But the outline is significantly different. So it's maybe a bit confusing. Did Factory Five tell you the Mk3/Mk4 dash would fit your 289?

The supplied dash is “16160 289 Blank Dash” according to the packing list.
I had previously read that the 427 dash does not fit the 289 hence the reason to want to send it to Acton before he builds a custom version for me.
Thanks for your response!

Edwardb - so I went to check again and you are right that I have a 427 blank dash not a 289. Looking at Factory Five’s website there is a 289 dash with cut outs and the profile is quite different!F0E0A6D7-2955-4028-972E-25C6EC0FB9A4.jpg92E84E41-E998-4251-AB86-F8706B644812.jpeg
Time to email Factory Five!

Also, you may want to raise the dash to the top of the center of the dash hoop. Otherwise, you will see the hoop.
