Nice scan tool for your GM engine.

I bought a very reasonably priced scan tool from Amazon recently that is GM specific. It can do resets including Crankshaft Variation Relearn, which comes in very handy if you ever disconnect your battery. Instead of paying a shop to do it. It can also check your IM REDINESS MONITOR to see if it is ready for an emission test if that is something that matters in your state. You can check for codes and clear them and look at data streams too. It will scan for a VIN automatically or you can input vehicle and engine data manually. My LS3 papers say to use a 2009 Cadillac CTS and then the engine. Check it out!

I bought a Foxwell NT710 last Oct. for my other car and LS3.
There is a coupon to get it for less, still more than it was last year.
I added the GM software to it.

Crankshaft Variation?? I’ve had my battery disconnected many times, it always started up OK.
    What does that do?

The engine will seem to run find but misfires may be detected when there weren't any. It's the computers way of fine tuning itself for misfires and injector timing. Your check engine light will stay on and set a P0315 code until the relearn is performed. I got a coupon in my engine paperwork to get it done for free at a dealer. 1 time only though. I added a real ck engine light to my dash. The GM computer harness has a ground wire in it to turn it on. You just have to power the other side of the light(switched ignition).

I also added the check engine light to my dash and have checked for codes, nothing.
Could it have anything to do with the HP difference in our engines? Mine is 430HP and isn’t yours the 480 or 525HP one?

No it's 430 HP also. Mine has all the emissions on it though (MASS laws). Different software is all I can think of. ??? What do you use for make, model and engine when using the scanner? You have an automatic trans too don't you? Do you have a separate controller for that or is it built in to your engine computer?

For make and model I use the GM 2014 Chevy SS Sedan LS3 RPO.
The 4L65e does have its own controller (CPP Supermatic Controller) that connects to the engine ECU.
The info for scanning the tranny says to use 2008 GMC Savanna G-Van or 2008 Chevy Express G-Van. Select 5.3 engine.
It did come with a USB stick from GM that loads the tranny control program on to my laptop so I can modify almost everything, data log, and view what’s happening as I drive.

Update on crankshaft variation relearn. My memory isn't what it used to be plus 4 years out of the trade, I remembered that once it is learned the initial time the EPROM remembers the data and only needs to be relearned again after replacing the crank sensor, crankshaft or damper if it is located there, some are in the block.
