    289 hood scoop cut out

    Been driving my 289 for a little over a month and enjoying every minute. As I continue to break in the engine and check that the rest of the car is working as designed I plan to divert energy to the body. Particularly how one cuts out the hood scoop. Please advise on how you folks successfully cut and opened up the fiberglass scoop before attaching the grill. Thanks in advance - Fred

    I really just eyeballed it, drew a line with a sharpie where I wanted to cut and then used a cut-off wheel. It took a bit to get it evened up how I wanted.

    Thanks Chainsaw I appreciate the input. I think I'll approach it the same. I was originally thinking an air saw, but mine isn't very exact with the cut. Did you use the cut-off wheel from underneath, or from the outside/top? Again thanks.

    I followed the Kliener recommendations for on my MK4, not a 289 version. Found hood center, used a large hole cutter bit for the corners and a die grinder for the straight parts. I cut from the under side.

    FYI, 289 cars have a molded in scoop. He's asking about cutting out the front of the scoop to open it up.

    To the OP; if you have access to an air saw the thin blade will let you make the curves easily.

    thanks Jeff. I do have an air saw, but find it wanders. Perhaps using it only on the corners will work and handling the straight stuff with a cut off wheel. Too cold today to work out there, but thanks all for the suggestions. I'll plan accordingly.
