What car are you working on? I know for the '33 you need a rear sump if you are going to run the electric steering setup. The motor sticks out and will hit a front sump pan.

On cars where it is an option I always go for rear sump. I figure that all the baffles and trap doors in the world can only do so much. So I want the oil to naturally keep the pickup full when I have my foot down on the gas. I am less worried about the engine while I am braking. So that means a rear sump.

Armando's, replica of the Aviaid pans that were used on the originals. It's a front-sump, comes with a pickup specific to the pan.

I purchased a Ford Racing crate engine and opted for the front sump because it is 1inch shallower than the rear sump 8” vs 9”and holds 2 quarts more oil 9qts vs 7 qt. These were the only two choices available on this particular engine. It was quite natural for Shelby to use Aviaid pans because John Morton worked at Avaid before going to work for Shelby and I am sure Shelby got a good deal.
