That's awesome Bobby! It definitely makes the rear end look more finished.
All for under $200 too

Like nothing....love it. Well done.
That is hilarious! I love the outline of it (maybe swap the mesh?). Very much like vmans modified squared up lower vent. Its hilarious that its from a KIA soul and is a front grill.

It needs some black on top for balance, like spoiler, but it works surprisingly well. Nice creativity!
I bought the matching upper grille too, but I'm not sure if I like it. Maybe to much going on:
I think it might look good if you can trim down the black perimeter or eliminate the black outside the chrome trim. Could you trim it flush and insert it from the inside?

Rori, do you have it permanently mounted to the rear bumper already? Id love to see it from inside the engine bay.
wow. really thinking outside the box. I agree, with both it seems like they might overwhelm the rear end, but once you add the lighter colored license plate, it might balance it back out.
Great job, can't wait to see what you decide on in the end.
That looks great!. Thanks for sharing that idea. Leave it black for contrast.
Very creative. Not expensive, not difficult and looks great.

Rori-
I really like it very much. On the upper section, similar to what Scargo said, I wonder if trimming outside the chrome, or perhaps painting the chrome section black would look like. The bottom section is just plain awesome, and the top has potential.
Way to be super creative and coming up with a great style choice!

Steve
I was thinking last night that this is perfect for doing the naked lotus rear. If you use that grill piece but cut out the inside you get the same shape as the lotus has in the rear. Leave that all open and add a diffuser to the bottom (and extend the sides) with a license plate mount and it would do exactly what I wanted.

The actual grille piece with the license plate mount is a separate piece. If you left that off it would be really open. Maybe it could be easily removable for track days and then snap it back on and drive home.

Mechie, why do you need the KIA trim piece to do that?

I guess it would be pissing into the wind to mention that these are fascias we are talking about. They are not bumpers. They are front and rear fascias.
" the fascia is used to describe the single panel that conceals the bumper, front or rear, and ties the bumper element visually with the sides of the vehicle -- often including a inlet for cooling."

That's part of it. If you just cut out the opening that is recessed into the factory 818 bumper it isn't very wide so, IMO, looses some of the aggressiveness. Adding the Kia Fascia ( ) lets me cut a much wider swath and give it the appearance of being wider than it really is and giving it a nice finished look.

Now that's smart. Well done rori!
I kinda like it a little better without the grill insert. Or maybe add different aluminum mesh like I have.
Thanks- Chad

This is great! Very creative re-purposing!
Great solution Rori! And it's versatile too!
Now that you found such a great sweeping move to make in the design process the real tedious stuff starts. That bottom works so well that it's now a delicate balancing act to avoid ruining it. The upper grill may work, but my guess is you'll only really find out after 100 or so tiny iterations of so many variables. Difficult work ahead, but well worth it. Damn nice find.
Personally, I also prefer the non-grill lower segment. The production grill can be opened up so it's not a faux mesh over most of its surface. I did this on my Mustang. But as was pointed out, I could see folks just pulling it for track duty and reinstalling it for the street (opened up or as is).
Best,
-j
Thanks Rori. I like that. The exposed transmission reminds me of the rear of the sesto elemento.

Better without grill insert and I wouldn't put that upper grill in. Looks great!

I came across a light that could potentially be a cheaper alternative to some of the round and rectangular shaped lights. The lights are designed for trailers mostly.

Hi Guy's,
So driving into work today I was stuck behind a Hyundai Veloster and was wondering if the rear bumper lower cover could work on the back of the 818?
or
Just Random thought if anybody good a the Photoshop maybe you could come up with a renderings to see this combination.
Thanks

I like it without the insert... frames the rear suspension perfect.
