    Gen 1 Coupe Power Brake Questions

    Hello, My name is Scott and I am building a Gen 1 type 65 coupe. The Kit belonged to a friend and he passed away and I am going to finish the car. That being said, the way she sits today is a rolling chassis with a 1993 Cobra 302 with a power-dyne supercharger. I need to pull the motor out and go through it, it has a nasty habit of blowing head gaskets but that's a story for another thread. As i complete the chassis i am considering upgrading to power brakes. I read through the posts about the Whitby kits, but I am more old school. I want to retrofit a 1994+ hydra-boost setup. Does anyone have any thoughts, or experience with this? Is it worth it?

    Unless you are planning power steering as well, I would just get a Mustang booster and bolt it on. Pretty sure it will go right in place.

    I am planning on power steering...

    Would the ford vacuum booster bolt up to the pedal assembly with the coupe? I do not have the Wiliwood setup.

    I picked up a Hydraboost setup off eBay yesterday. I will update the thread when i get it and get it installed in case anyone is interested.

    Hey there, not sure if anyone is interested, but i got my hydro-boost setup installed this weekend. here is what i did. On the back of the hydro boost there is a big nut, 1 5/8". I took that off and used the 2 spacers that were between the master and the frame on the coupe. I welded 2 studs on there and put the nut back and welded it so it won't come off. bolted it up and ran the lines. Slick setup. Cant wait to get the motor running so i can try it out.     that's what they are there for! Just so so you know the blue coupes in the pics are not mine. One is Roy Hewson (dark blue silver stripe) and one is Bill Loefflers (lighter blue racing stickers etc.). My car is not painted yet but getting closer.

    Pardon me for hijacking this thread but if you play the short video of the coupes leaving, Roy's is first and mine (Bill's) is second. Note the difference in exhaust sound, Roy has the stock FFR system while mine has a system with larger and slightly longer mufflers which allow talking at normal voice levels while at speed. One of the requirements my wife asked for if I wanted her to ride with me. After 6,300 miles from 06/27/2014 I guess she is still happy with the sound. Another possibility is somewhat better breathing. I have to admit I do like the sound of Roy's though. Just thought I'ld mention this for the folks who would like a less noisy ride.

    Hello,
    I realize this an old thread but im planning to the same hydraboost application. I have the same unit as in your pictures. What did you do about the MC reservoir as it is designed for more of an upward angle? Also, what lines are you using? I'm unsure if using conventional AN lines are appropriate for this. I'm considering having crimped hydraulic lines made but not sure about the fittings. Thanks.

    The angle won't bother it. I used a 2002 mustang pedal box and hydroboost with the Ffr adapter and it works great. This should get you to the correct area of my blog http://homeschoolcoupe.blogspot.com/...results=15&m=0

    For hydraulic brake lines use the "Bundy" tubing that's available just about everywhere. I got a bunch of it with my kit. Do AN 37* single flare with "B" nuts and ferrules. Should be good for any line pressure you can generate. DO NOT use any aluminum/copper tubing or fittings anywhere in the brake system! That's just courting catastrophe...
