    Vintage Gauge Question

    I wired my gauges to the dash harness yesterday and was reading how to calibrate and set up each of the gauges. My question is once the fuel and speedo gauges are calibrated, do you just leave the setup button attached to the clock for easy access in the future? It seems that is the only gauge that would require a periodic reset and getting to it after the car is assembled may be a PITA.

    In theory, yes. I ended up buying extra buttons for each gauge and mounting them under the dash. I just couldn't see myself trying to get the dash off to set those gauges again if they ever glitched out. Plus, you need at least another button for the trip reset in the speedo. I ordered them through Speedhut.
    If Brute Force doesn't work, you're not using enough of it.

    I mount a pushbutton for the speedo on the lip of the dash under the speedo. After calibration (if necessary) it's needed to reset the trip odometer. If you have the newer GPS speedo, there are additional functions available using the pushbutton. I mount the pushbutton for the clock in the glovebox. Needed to set the time. For the others, I didn't make a permanent connection after they were calibrated. In a pinch, I could reach them behind the dash. But so far in 3 seasons of driving with these gauges, hasn't been necessary. FWIW, I make my own additional cables. They're real simple 1/8-inch jacks and a momentary pushbutton. Was easier when there was a Radio Shack down the street to get the parts though.

    Thanks Paul. I just orderd a pair from Speedhut. I considered only getting one extra to do just the clock and speedo, but the shipping cost was more than a single button, so I ordered two. I'll likely do the same as you and keep one on the speedo and clock and keep an extra handy in case I ever need to reset the others.
