It could be your filter, but have you ruled out al other possibility's already?
You've checked for weeping fuel pump or tank sender unit gaskets? Leaky carb, or fuel line connection? Does it smell worse some times then others? IE; after parking it hot, or after just filing the tank, sort of thing?
Only happened after I filled it. I get down to 3/4 tank and all is good.
I just use one I buy at aquarium stores. Find the biggest one they carry and buy it.
