I think I can , I think I can...start it up very soon.
Hooked up the battery, got lights on and my boys tested the horn. Loud and clear, multiple times.

Went with the red top in the trunk. Also debating if I should drill the roll bar or use Tangent screw kit.
[url=https://flic.kr/p/FXtts7]
Couple things left: install side pipes, engine coolant, premium gas and extra oil due to relocation kit.

The engine with the headers sticking out looks so cool it's almost a shame to put the body on. Keep up the good work!

So I took week off and visited FL Orlando/ Clearwater and Legoland with my boys. Much needed break and now I asking myself why do we still live in Chicago?
Anyhow, I attempted to start up the car today. Got gas, battery and cooling done. Was hoping for some nice rock&roll show today!
Hm, after cranking for awhile and checking that fuel was getting to the mechanical pump, but not up to carburetor. Called Mike Forte and it was recommended to pour some gas in carburetor to get engine start up and spin the pump faster.
Will work on this Friday or this weekend.
Almost there
I would post a video, but it was a whole bunch of tatatatatatat

Ok, more updates. After the start up I noticed couple things leaking.
1/ The gas line was leaking - fixed.
2/ The brake lines were leaking - fixed.
3/ The coolant was leaking and busted open, one of the rubber tubes wasn't properly hooked up - fixed.
4/ I forgot to run the coil wire feed. Noticed the wire in EFI bundle. I wasn't paying it much attention since I am carburetor. - fixed.
5/ Noticed missing fan temp sensor. Luckily, I noticed the temp getting high and stopped - part in mail.
I forgot to connect the green fan switch wire in sending bundle. For some reason I was thinking that the temp gauge wire would trigger the cooling fan. I was obviously wrong.
Other than that it went pretty good.
I also installed the vinyl dashboard using rivnuts. I used those on brake line cover as well.
I worked on finishing the sound/heat insulation. Used up 3 rolls and it was just about right amount to cover.

Hey Martin
Things are looking good in your garage!!
I love the boys cobra....you can NEVER have too many bottons on the dash at that age
I have a similar situation....lost my wife suddenly just before New Years (never sick a day in her life and then...)
We had always said when we hit 50 I would build us a cobra for her and I to tool around in ( she wasn’t to keen on all the race cars ). However that didn’t happen....so a month ago I jumped on the train in Chicago and went to Factory Five and placed my order. My MK4 will be delivered in July and I will build it in her honor!
If you feel like a visit or need a set of hands I am only 45 minuets from you and would love to pick your brain.
Thanks and I am REALLY enjoying your build with the boys!
Jimmy
Hi Jimmy,
I am sorry for your loss I know, everything is blur and there isn't any sense of direction or purpose. Sorry. I am 15 months out, things do get better on some level.
You are welcome anytime! Feel free to txt/call @919-412-5956 anytime. This weekend I am planning to do some go carting around my neighborhood.
We can talk cars, grief or whatever you have on your mind. Or just have a beer

Working on some odd things.
Started to assemble the hood hinges and noticed they are bit loose. The nut is tightened all the way and still room to play. I may need to use additional washer to make it snug.
[url=https://flic.kr/p/253a6FV]
I am not sure how far in the steering wheel goes, but it looks like it should be flushed with the base. You can see the rod still needs to go. Still room to go, but pretty tight. May need to sand the side a bit.
[url=https://flic.kr/p/Fo2yiZ]
I heard people mentioning something about door handles, so I tweak them as well
Found some spare bolts from toilet and they fit pretty good! (note: new, never used
I still need to to do the handle knob, but don't have the proper tools.
[url=https://flic.kr/p/Fo2yoD]
And, I finally got the fan sensor installed. Left is the fan sensor (single wire), right temp gauge (two wire).
...tomorrow will check the radiator fan on/off and will do some go carting.

Ok, today was just awesome! took the car out, tested the fan sensor., It works like a charm, starts at 85C and run even with the ignition key removed. So we did some go carting today, yeah!
I can't even remember how many times I took these kids around the neighborhood They LOVED IT!! I can't wipe the smile off of my face, sweet.
Then inspected for leaks and missing parts. Got 3 leaks, gas line, oil, and tranny leaks where I used the speedo instead of spending more money (lesson learned, need the correct plug)
Other than that, temp is ~80C,
No major noise or vibration,
smooth ride.
Brakes can use a bleed again, kinda spongy.

I’m glad you had a chance to get it out! With a couple nice days here and there, I get anxious to pull the cover off and go for a spin! I have a couple little things to do first.
Congratulations!! Sten

I fixed the steering wheel, it needed some hand sanding and it fit right in.
I got rid of the oil relocation kit, 8 less connection to keep track of.
Ordered couple pastes for the gas line. Also ordered the proper tko600 plug from M. Forte.
I also put on some seat belts to keep my monkeys in. (got only 4 points for now, will do the fifth after seat is mounted)

Last night I was able to finish the door handles. (used some toilet screws and 6/32s for the handle knobs)
Also worked on side pipes hangers. I am not sure if they provide any support at all. For now I will leave it like it is. I left the (pipe side) inner screw out to allow for movement up/down. Considering mounting the second rubber support to the frame. Thoughts?

Your build is so clean. Nothing like mine. I was told that the hangers for the side pipes need to be under some tension so that's what I did. Might be a few threads on it if you do a seach, but I was told by the Traveling Builder (Mark Dougherty) and he knows his stuff so I took it as gospel.

Yesterday we started to work on trunk carpet. I like the look and feel. Went to Menards and got some car carpeting, they have multiple colors. Baby wanted to get a green, I choose the plain and boring gray.
Boys needed to test the cushion and sleep comfort level. It was approved!
I started working from the seat belt area and slowly work my way out. No need to measure much, this stuff is pretty flexible and forgiving.
Working more on trunk areas. The paint glue is more expensive than the whole carpet!
Final results. I really like it! Super cheap and easy thing to do.

Looking good Martin! I've used that exact same Menard's carpet in the trunk of 3 or 4 of 'em.
