Tales of a Toolbox
The newsletter editor at my Chevelle Club is always begging members to contribute something for our monthly newsletter. I came up with a little something for him, and I thought I'd share it here as well. It's the 3rd-person account of my Dads toolbox.
Let me introduce myself2.pdf
(It's coming up on 10 years he's gone, so this is hitting a little close to home...)

Lost my dad last year. Beautiful tribute.

That's a nice story, John. My Dad's old box is in my basement. Next time I use it, I'll think of it a little differently.

Close to home here too;
Dad's been gone 3 years, and with Mom declining quickly from ALS we will have a lifetime
of their things to deal with soon. It made me think of Dad's old hip roof tool box that he
used for almost 60 years. From his earliest dirt track racing days through decades of our
camping trips in everything from a home-made slide-in to a converted school bus through
several store bought motorhomes. For the track Dad made his own roll-cages and even widened
his own wheels by cutting apart two wheels and saving the wide side of each and welding them
back together, then welding in the extra center for a doubled lug plate. That tool box went with
us every Friday night and all across this country quite a few times on our vacation/camping trips.
Thanks for making me stop and consider it in a new light, and at a crucial time in my journey;
Dale

John,
What a great read. Thanks for that.

Great story. My dad has been gone for 26 years now, but I still have his tool boxes and tools. The tool boxes happen to be quite similar to the ones in this story. Dad was a mechanic as well.
I just can’t seem to replace those boxes. Too many good memories.
