Anyone have a 408 stroker in their Cobra with pictures? How’s the clearance under the hood and what, if any, mods have to be made with the intake and air cleaner to clear the hood? Thanks.

408 fits for with a Victor Jr intake. Air cleaner selection is important but there is not issues.

Doesn't just have to be a 408. Any 351w block based build will be the same. 351, 408, 427, etc. Places to look are the intake, carb and air cleaner, as you mentioned, due to the higher deck height compared to a 302 based build. Also note the header and plug access. Pretty tight for the same reason.

I do and it fits fine w/ Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and this filter

Edit to ad, mine is not an air gap intake.

I'm running a 408. Since its a 351w based motor like Paul explained the intake manifold, carb and air cleaner will make a difference. I have the Edelbrock RPM Air gap intake in endurashine #75814 and it sits high. I also have an Edelbrock endurashine finish carb. To show off all that bling I opted for an oval air filter. You can do a round drop base air filter or modify the hood and use the oval one.
I've got a 351W with a Edelbrock Air Gap intake, Quick-Fuel 750 and its tight. Using a drop based air cleaner it just clears...

Thanks. I'm thinking Edelbrock Air Gap with Quickfuel 750 and oval 2 1/4" air cleaner. Seems like the variable is around the intake being a Performer RPM or Air Gap...with the RPM fitting, but the air gap needing modification to the hood?
DavidW - If you were to use the oval air cleaner, what mods need to be done to the hood?
Whitby modified the hood so the oval air cleaner would fit, here is a picture prior to paint. Basically the scoop sits back a couple inches then normally to accommodate the oval air cleaner. I'll take a picture later to show how it looks looking into the scoop and how much room there is.
When I test fit my 351W based engine a short carb stud just hit the hood w/o a scoop hole. This is with a Vic Jr manifold, FFR/Mustang engine mounts, Holley 4150. With the hood scoop hole cut in the center-top of the drop base air cleaner should just fit.
Note: the body is in place but not properly fitted, it might be a bit higher when correct.

Gordon Levy's solid motor mounts will give you another 3/4 inch. As a bonus, you will not have to trim as much off the body around the header pipes. Ken (Pike) had me put them on to give us more room under the hood, I have not noticed any difference in vibration or noise (which I was expecting to increase). It also helped with my pinion angle which was out of limits with the stock mounts. A good option if needed!

Thanks again for the feedback everyone. I don't really want to modify the hood, so I'll either go with an RPM Performer intake or use the solid motor mounts that BB767 suggested.
