    You're talking about the rectangular "sock" that goes on the bottom of the fuel pump? Engages a round extension on the bottom of the fuel pump into a mating location roughly in the center of the sock? If so, I'm sure you've seen the metal clip retainer on the sock filter. You have to have it lined up just right and get a solid push for that retainer to engage onto the fuel pump. I use the edge of my workbench and put a little weight into it. Can be stubborn, but you have to push hard enough for the metal retainer fingers to flex. Wait until you try to get it back off.
