700 R4 transmission installation help needed
My car come without a transmission mounting plate (34705). I got it today and have questions on which way it goes in and what rubber mount do you use. I called Tec and they said it can go in multiple ways depending on the transmission in use. I asked if he knew which way for a 700 R4. He couldn't say. Also he said that the Ford rubber mount can be used with the GM 700R4 with the adapter included with the mount. There is nothing in the bag with part # 4.1104G that looks close to use with my transmission.
Can someone who has a SBC W/700 R4 please help me by showing me a picture of the orientation of the mounting plate in the frame and what piece did you use to adapt the Ford rubber mount to the 700 R4.
Is it OK to jack up the trans under the oil pan?
Thanks,
Cliff

I am using the 4L65 in my 33, I believe this is the same case size as your 700R. I gave the Ford mount away and bought a mount for the 4L60 that is a bolt on. I fabricated a transition piece to fasten the rubber mount to the FFR plate. I have this picture which is not exactly what you want but might help.ExhaustIV.jpg

Put a 5/8" piece of plywood between the Jack and the tranny pan and you'll be OK.
I also have a 4L65e and used the tranny rear mount that came from FF, I had to modify it, adding spacers, a few splacer plates, and longer bolts.

I think that is it. The spacers were in the Ford bag. I was trying to mount the rubber mount up side down. The way you have it makes sense. Off to the hardware store tomorrow for a plate and some longer bolts.
Thanks

Here’s a photo from the bottom. From my 700R4 with SBC 400 gen 2 chassis

I had to clearance the chassis because I spaced the engine back 1/2”.

I used what they sent me. Hope this helps.

I had to cut the spacers in half and put one on the bolts that go into the transmission. On the left side there is interference with the casting for the speedometer housing. I'm sure you ran into the same issue. That is why your plate is offset between the transmission bolts and the bolts that go into the mount. I'm going to have to revisit this again. I wanted 1/8" steel and all they had was 1/4".
Would you happen to have the dimensions of your plate? Bolt spacing, etc. I also set my engine back 1/2" and what you made will do the trick.
Thanks again for your help.

700r4 bracket

I don’t have the dimensions for the bracket. I can measure it when I get back out to the shop if you want, But F5 will send it to you, Just tell them it’s for the 700r4. The mount from F5 is very nice. Also I used a dremal tool to make clearance in the area on the left side of the trans for the nut for the ford trans mount.

Thank you. Don't bother. I'll try to get it from F5 Tuesday. What I did needs to be replaced.

I got a reply from FFR on the mount He is asking if this is the mount. 700 R4 trans mount.jpg Can you let me know if it looked like that.

Yep that looks like the one. It’s strange that they didn’t know which one to use for the 700r4.

Have you mounted your mufflers yet? If you did, did you have to modify anything from what FFR sends you.

Sorry, I can’t help. I haven’t installed the exhaust yet. I’m doing a completely custom built exhaust. I didn’t get any exhaust parts from F5.
