I hope Barry spares you. I can’t even imagine going through anything like that

Right now I've got about 2 more feet before the water gets on the slab.
Lake Pontchartrain is getting filled from the East from the counter clockwise rotation of the storm.
Normally this wouldn't be an issue with a storm this weak but the spillway, which is at the Western end of the lake, has been open since May in an attempt keep NOLA dry.

Our street is the last to go under so we may bug out if the water comes up so I stay awake to wait & watch.

Damn, sorry Steve I hate floods. Have lived on the Mississippi most of my life and have been through too many of them. Still cleaning up the this years. Good luck
Good luck, Steve. I know you're a veteran of flooding, but it has to be tough knowing it's coming and there's nothing you can do to stop it except evacuate and pray for the best.

Steve you are in our thoughts and prayers.
many Know I had a shop ( an old stone mill built in 1797) for more than a few years that is next to a beautiful trout stream.
given the right storm situation it would flood up to 16'
could not hurt the building but everything in it would be toast.
Thankfully I was not in the building for a big 1.
but my stress level escalated tremendously with every rain event.
to this day heavy rains still raise my BP.

Hey Gang,
We're doing fine being flooded in and this Louisiana Coastal Living Crap has got me looking at lift 4" kit for my truck.

The nice part of living here is that I can be fishing in minutes, but flooding takes about the same amount of time too.

It's monsoon season here and as I heard thunder in the distance I was thinking of you and stopped to check the weather report there. Even as the winds have weakened it looks like y'all are in for another drenching. Be safe and God bless.

I actually am home today so I logged seven (7) to ten (10) more test miles before doing my 1st oil change on the new engine.
Now it is storming outside so no grass cutting will get done, but at least I drove my car.
Money & Time Seem To Never Match Up!
Why Is That?

Logged 10 more test miles on the back roads near my home, then took the car to a Hot Rod Run via the shameful use of my car trailer.
> The car was a big hit with the Chevy Guys, but not so much with the Ford Fans.
> Quite a few parents seemed to really like the car, probably because I let them put their kids in it.
My pals Heath (351 Windsor) and Donny (396 Ford Edsel) brought their cars so Factory Five was well represented.
NOTE VIA WIKIPEDIA:
"FE" derives from 'Ford-Edsel.
[1] Versions of the FE line designed for use in medium and heavy trucks and school buses from 1964 through 1978 were known as "FT," for 'Ford-Truck,'[2] and differed primarily by having steel (instead of nodular iron) crankshafts, larger crank snouts, smaller ports and valves, different distributor shafts, different water pumps and a greater use of iron for its parts.

We logged 10-12 more test miles and then Heath and I worked on his car.
To say the least, his roadster's body is a lot rougher than mine.
I'm glad that they are updating the molds next year.

I've been busy at work so I only get to do a few test miles here and there.
> Water temperature is hanging around 165-175 so I'm guessing the crazy thick cylinder walls are keeping the temperatures low in spite of the 185 degree thermostat.
> The block is a Dart SHP which can be bored to 4.165", but I'm way below that at 4.030" so I'm assuming that this is a mitigating factor for the low temperature.
> Oil temperature seems to be a bit high 205-210 F; however, my sender is on a sandwich adapter between the block and the oil filter with no oil cooler.
> I'm seriously thinking about moving the sender to the oil pan, but don't feel like pulling the pan to install the sender.
> Maybe when the body is off at the paint shop I'll consider making this change.
> Not sure it if would be work going through the hassle or not.
What Say You Guys & Gals?
Last edited by GoDadGo; 09-29-2019 at 02:57 PM.
I think as long as you know your standard, you're fine. Just moving the sender may get you different numbers, but down the road, are we really looking at numbers or are we just watching to see if anything has changed?
Oil temp normally runs a little hotter than water temp, and you're well below the point where the oil starts to break down more rapidly.
I would leave it where it is.

Oil at 205-210 is absolutely not a problem. I have read on many occasions that getting it over 212F is a good thing as that will boil out any condensation.
FFR MkII, 408W, Tremec TKO 500, 2015 IRS, DA QA1s, Forte front bar, APE hardtop.
Reading the temperature of active oil such as you have it rather than in the sump is actually a good thing. You have it in a good place and don't seem to have a problem. You'll eventually find that RPM has a greater effect on oil temp than ambient temperature.
Carry on!
Jeff
Thanks Gentlemen!
This is the first time I have used a sandwich adapter for this purpose.
In the past I ran one simply to run an oil cooler, never an oil temperature sending unit.
Boiling off any condensation, well that's a good thing when you live where the humidity runs in the 80-95% mark most of the years.
Steve
Logged 7 miles last Sunday and another 7 today.
Even bought some cookies (2 dozen) from a lady who was selling baked goods where I usually turn around to make my way home.
Plan to start taking the car apart to get after the body work sooner than later.

We Are Closing A Chapter:
We've had a major issue on the home front, which was similar to last year, so only limited test driving and wrenching could do over the past six or seven months.
On October 16th we lost my wife's father (aka: Bayou Dave) and laid him to rest last Saturday.
https://obits.nola.com/obituaries/no...197&fhid=40533
Opening Up A New One:
Yesterday we had a Birthday Bash for our Baby Girl who turned 26 on the 26th.
The family was all there and as of yesterday Emma is engaged to a fine young man who knows his way around a Kitchen because he's a Chef in New Orleans.
They've been together all through their college years, work well together and hope to one day open their own restaurant or fast casual eatery.
Back To The Build:
We'll be back to the build, probably as early as next week.
We'll be planning a wedding for some time next year too.
We'll be living life once more because life goes on.
May God Bless You All & Your Families Too!
Steve

I was home this weekend so I did some wrench swinging and a bit more sanding before cleaning up the shop.
This coming Saturday I'll be changing the plugs, re-setting the timing and adjusting the carburetor before logging some more test miles.
On Sunday my pal Darrell-Darrell will be coming over to teach me how to properly apply body filler so that we can get the car primed and painted before Mardi Gras
He joked about my Post Hurricane Katrina Sheetrock Floating Skills will likely come in handy; however, I reminded him that walls are flat and Cobras are nothing but curves.
NOTE: Mardi Gras 2020 Falls On Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

Removed a bunch of stuff and started sanding and sanding and sanding.
I also adjusted the trunk and tweaked the passenger side door.
My primary goal is to NOT screw anything up.

Not wanting to leave well enough alone yet again, I fabricated two body supports that takes the load off of the Ram Horn Brackets.
Now the front end is sold as a rock and I can easily repeat it's final position with little difficulty.
Basically I'm supporting the soot so that nothing can droop.
Sorry I don't have any video of this yet.
Hey Steve
I'm a bit behind you (let's call it a month or so) on my '33. Heavily into fitting the doors, engine side covers, etc and then I'll be into knocking down the mold flash, etc.... It would be great if you posted more details on your approach and methods here. I know you'll be following the advice of the body "wise men" so it will be good to get it out there again. So far I've got some Dura-Blocks and just ordered some Soft-Sanders, also have a gallon of the Rage Gold, a roll of 80 grit for the initial rough stuff,....
