Basket Case GTM Build
Hello Everyone. I recently purchased a GTM that was never finished and is missing parts. I've decided to do a video build log of me putting this car together. I would love any input and advice on this build.

I'll try to update this as I continue working on this car.

Welcome to the fun house, hope you will be the owner to finish this car up.
Keep us posted and remember no question is too stupid.

Wow, 4th owner before completion. That must be a record? Hope you're able to finish it!
90% of your build will be wiring and body work...also finding that 10mm socket.

Welcome to the madness, and have fun with the challenge of making it your own car...

You will get to go cart quickly and then it will all slow down and it will take some much time for the rest.
Welcome and good luck.
Need wiring help let me know.

Welcome to the craziness and thanks for taking on this challenge and sharing it with us. I've thought a few times about throwing some videos up just as better updates, maybe I'll have to do that still.

Thanks for all of the positive words guys. I'm really not looking forward to the wiring but I know the body will keep me busy for a long time before I get to that point. Hopefully I can get another video of mounting the body to the frame and maybe getting some body panels pieces mounted. I'll keep you guys posted.

The wiring can be pretty simple or get pretty complicated, depending on what you decide to do. If you are going with a crate engine, it's pretty easy and straight forward. If you're using a donor engine with the donor 'Vette harness and fusebox, it can get sort of confusing. Either way, we're here if you have questions or need help. Good luck!

I'm sure when I get to the wiring I will be asking tons of questions. I have a donor LS2 and a couple wiring harnesses. I have no idea what this stuff is out of, C5, GTO, Trailblazer. So I'm sure that will get interesting.
My question now is this. I'm starting with the body work. I want to mount the body to the chassis just to do body work so everything lines up. The rear mounting points I figured where into the transmission mount bracket but the manual says its in the hatch latch. Is this right? That seems like a really small area and a weaker point than the bracket.

I know on my buddy's that I was briefly helping him with, we welded a metal angle iron bracket under the hatch latch to reinforce the mounting. Unfortunately, I can't find the photos.

Yes, you do want to raise the rear of the body up and mount the license plate area of the body ABOVE the chassis tube. When FFR ships the kit out, they put a couple screws thru the body into the chassis tube to support the rear of the body, but that is NOT where the body is supposed to be positioned. We also make our own rear bracket to attach the body in this location. I'll see if I can post a pic....
