Has anyone bought and install a metal dash panel instead of installing gauges directly in the fiberglass? I see a few dash panels at Speedway that are available but the car's dash has that slight angle to it (installing gauges in the middle over shifter not behind the steering wheel - too much going on there).

I guess you have a gen 1, yes? Tim @ Kootenai has an aluminum dash that fits. http://kootenaivalleycustoms.com/Products.php Tim's a good guy, give him a call to discuss if you want to know more
The design was changed for Gen 2 and the dash is a separate panel. Not sure how well it fits to the gen 1. Maybe call FFR to discuss.
Can't comment on solutions from other sources

I fabricated an aluminum panel to mount a RacePak dash and some turn signal indicators. I get behind the dash so frequently that I wanted a large access hole and cover. The cover acts as a mounting plate. I have a Gen-1 and cut the dash so that I can remove the entire face by loosening five 1/4-turn fasteners. That leaves the entire under dash are open.
I believe I have photos on my build gallery -- link below.
Dart Little M 406" SBC 800 HP N/A & 1,100 HP on nitrous, 2-spd Powerglide with trans brake, 6,000 RPM stall converter, narrowed Moser 88 3.90:1 spool with 35-spline gun-drilled axles & Torino bearings, custom parallel four-link, custom tube chassis & roll cage NHRA certified for 8.5-sec (only two FFR Hot Rods have this cert).
I bought a piece of engine turned aluminum, trimmed it to the shape I wanted then cut holes for the gauges, and mounted it in the center of the dash.
The cutout is big enough to get at a lot of things behind the dash. 3470D9C4-B326-4D63-B69F-B56E71C63435.jpg

Has anyone found a glove box that works in the dash?
Only one I found was a glove box for boats....dimensions were okay to fit but the cover was just plain ugly / cheap looking, and would have taken a lot of work to look good.
