    Emergency Brake Cables

I was wondering if others have had to cut down the crimp ferrule on the ends of the emergency brake cables to get them to clear the lever end on the caliper?20230129_164811.jpg

Yep. Mine we're just like yours. Also trimmed the other end the same amount.

Hmmm ... this is a bit odd. Is this specific to IRS or solid axle &/or Wilwood?

I had the opposite problem with a Wilwood / 3-link setup, where there was not enough slack. The kit was missing a link that needed to be installed between brake handle and turn-buckle. That link was about 1" long, which kinda looks like the extra cable length in the photo ...

This is in an IRS setup with Wilwoods. I have slack, but the ferrule is too long.

ok I think there are a couple things going on here. Like Burchfieldb mentioned the swaged cable stop is just too long. I have the same Wilwood and IRS setup he has. Up by the handle I also didn't have enough slack. I made a set of 1" links to make up the difference. Also not sure if anyone else has this issue, but the bracket that holds the cables to the frame at the handle is at the wrong angle by like 20 degrees where the cable points downward and not directly at the handle. The first time I pulled the handle and tensioned the cable, it ground the plastic sheath of the cable. I made an adapter plate to put between the cable and the bracket that corrects the angle. Also had to grind on the little retainer clips to allow for the same angle.

    John,
Do you have a picture of what you did up by the handle?

    Thanks,

Now I see the issue ... doh!

Very different setup for the solid axle - no swage clearance concerns

@ JMo, I believe the links are in the Roadster kit. This is a MIK issue for the Coupe - should be part of build list, but was not (in 2022...)

I just ran into this today with my Coupe-R, made up an adapter plate between the e-brake handle rod end and the cable clevis' about .75" long to allow a bit of clack in the cable. I did not receive the Wildwood cable extension brackets that bolt to the e-brake lever, if I had those, I would not have needed the fabricate the adapter plate - which was pretty easy to do really.

Many details on my Coupe-R are different from a typical Coupe build because mine is not street legal, race only.
