    Automatic transmission cooler?

I am installing a 4R70W auto. transmission in my Mk4. Just wondering if I can get a little advice on what others have used? Size, type, brand and any mounting hints or issues I should be aware of?
    Thanks

While likely not something that would fit easily in the MK4, I used the transmission cooler from a 2017 Mustang GT for the 6R80 transmission in my current project.

Having both the inlet and outlet on the same end made running the hoses easier in my case. Plus, compared to most of the aftermarket solutions, it was inexpensive.
MK4 base kit, 2004 Mach 1 donor, 4.6L DOHC, TR-3650 5-speed, narrowed stock axle with 3.55 gears and TruTrac, PS, PB, ABS, 17" Halibrand replica wheels, started 12/2011, registered 9/2014, sold 3/1/2018.
1970 Mustang Fastback Coyote powered Boss 302 tribute. Started 10/14/16.
Gen 3 Coupe Base Kit non-donor build. Ordered 4/5/2024 to be received August 2024.

I'm assuming you're building a complete kit and thus already have a radiator. If so, then you probably want to proceed with finding a suitable external cooler.

I built my car from a base kit and used a donor drivetrain. The radiator in my donor was badly corroded, so I used a Fox Mustang replacement radiator with an integral auto-trans cooler. I was able to use the stock AOD cooler lines to get to the front of the engine, then spliced and bent my own lines to extend them to the integral cooler. If you're building a non-donor from base kit or something, and don't already have a radiator, this could be a suitable option for you.

    Regards,
    Kyle

I installed an EVIL ENERGY 16 Row Oil Cooler, 10AN Stacked Plate Transmission Engine Cooler Universal Aluminum in Black. You can get them on Amazon for $75. I mounted it in the lower grill opening in the traditional place for an engine oil cooler following the FFR instructions for how to mount an engine oil cooler. No issues to date but I do not have the car finished. It is a driving chassis at this point. Interior and body work remain to be done.

I had the B&M SuperCooler Oil Coolers 70265 in my MKII for over 6000 Florida miles without any problems. I have installed the same one in my current MKIV but I haven't driven very many miles with it yet.
