    Moroso Expansion Tank Height Coyote

trying to position my Moroso expansion tank - when I hold a straight edge across the 3/4" tubes that run aft along the hood opening, The tank seems to contact the straight edge at the threaded portion of the tank. the tank itself is below the 3/4" tubes, but the cap would be above. Is that low enough to avoid problems when I get the hood mounted?IMG_2741.jpg

For anyone else with a different version of the Moroso tank. It has been very successful. No overheats, No added coolant between services. Burps the engine very quickly.

Its a "chrome" aftermarket Mustang GT cap. I used a Cobra wheel center cap sticker instead of the Mustang sticker Been on since 2016 or so & don't remember where they are from by check Amazon as I got a lot of the bling stuff from them.

To confirm the tank won't interfere, it's a super quick fit check w/ the hood. Just place some 3/4" blocks on the 3/4 tube and sit the hood on it. This should give you a quick confirmation you don't have any interference concerns. See my build thread post about checking it HERE. Credit goes to EdwardB for the quick and dirty mockup advice.

I agree with Frank. If you have it in that position, it will fit. Here's a view of mine for another perspective. I later used rivet nuts instead of nuts and bolts to attach the tank to the bracket, but this gives you an idea of how high the tank can be mounted. If the mounting tab of the tank is even with the bottom edge of the 3/4" tube, you'll be fine.

    Very helpful, thanks!

Now for the bonus question - I can't find the diameter of the hoses to buy T-Bolt clamps. Anyone have that data? I could always wait for theme to arrive and measure, as the T bolts seem to have a fairly tight diameter range, but then I'm on hold again. local auto parts stores only carry the worm style clamps.

    I like your different style

so where does coolant come out if you overfill these type of setups? my tank seems to be burping well, just want to know what happens if accidentally overfilled

There's a small hole on the inside of the filler neck right at the cap that connects to a tube running inside the reservoir and coming out the bottom. You can sort of make out that hole in this photo. If the pressure builds up past the set point of the cap or the system is overfilled, it will escape through that hole and dump out the bottom of the tank. I know this because when I was filling my system I must have inadvertently poured some of the coolant onto that hole. I found a small puddle of coolant on the garage floor and was chasing a non-existent leak for a while before I figured out what had happened.

ah yes! i know that one - thanks! was always wondering why there was that odd hole underneath so it makes sense that it spills over inside the cap like that, also makes more sense why it's an expensive part with that type of construction too!

I'll put a plug in here for the Gates PowerGrip hose clamps. They install basically like heavy duty heat-shrink tubing with a heat gun, and are dead-simple to install and virtually leak-proof even on irregular shapes. Summit sells them under the Allstar Performance name but they're the same clamps. I used P/N ALL30257 for the upper and lower radiator hoses and P/N ALL30254 for the hose coming off the bottom of the expansion tank.

John K answered the question. I use a dip stick, wood paint stirrer, to check the level as I fill. Have not had an overfill or fluid dump with the system. Had a number with the FFR tank & a 2QT replacement of the FFR piece.

Perfect - will go that route. I assume that means you can use these on upper and lower radiator hoses at the radiator, lower radiator at the engine, then the smaller size under the expansion tank. that connects to a plastic piece on the engine that I would not want to heat with a heatgun, so still a regular clamp there?

Yes, upper and lower radiator hoses at the radiator. For the lower radiator hose I used a Boig Cool Tube, so I actually needed 4 of the Gates PowerGrip clamps for the lower radiator hose. For the smaller hose under the expansion tank, I used the Gates PowerGrip at both ends. Just turn the heat gun down a little and go slow. That plastic fitting on the engine is meant to handle some heat so if you don't go crazy with the heat gun it'll be fine.

Also, if you're running a KRC power steering pump, you may find that the upper radiator hose fitting at the engine may come very close, or actually touch, the pulley on the water pump. You can grind a small notch in the radiator hose to "re-clock" it and gain enough clearance. Talked about in my build thread here.

Mine is pretty simple. Upper hose is a F150/Coyote part cut short at the radiator end & the lower hose is a 3 section Breeze part. Two formed rubber end sections & a SS tube as the center section. Bracket holds the metal tube to the chassis. Standard hose clamps have been good since 2014. The better clamps would be a nicer touch but not something to do till I flush the system.

Regardless of how anyone does this the most important thing IMHO. Lose the corrugated parts from FFR. Was too many reports of them leaking or coming unattached.

I've had a mystery coolant leak for some time now and can not figure out where it comes from. All hoses OK. The leak does not show up (on the garage floor) for hours after I park the car. The coolant on the floor is not directly under the expansion tank, but under the front of the oil pan and definitely smells like coolant. I assume if it is leaking from the expansion tank, the coolant could possibly be traveling on the frame or some place else until it ends up under the oil pan. I'll stop re-filling the tank to see if it stops. Currently, I fill the coolant until it is about 1 and 3/4 inches from the bottom of the filler neck (top of the tank). Hope it's as simple as an "overfill" problem.
